This weekends job is replacing the down pipe on my wifes 106.

It looks just like this one:-




Cast iron manifold 4-1 then this pipe, with the lamda sensor in it, then the rear section of the pipe.

Question is am I going to need anything else to do this job?

New exhaust clamps, bolts, gaskets?

Decent spanner of pref. a Lambda sender socket.

And if it's anywhee near original, the bolts into the cat will be these odd long headed socket cap jobbers.

Pretty easy job (done loads!) only compounded by the fact that it's such a flimsy frog onion box that you're never sure where to jack it up

I'd get a couple of new gaskets and some exhaust paste.

having removed the downpipe on the 924 it took me about a dozen attempts to refit it without it blowing

Be careful that the bolts don't snap on the manifold joint, they might be a bit sticky and have had a lot of hot heat cycles. The one at the back by the engine can be awkward iirc and best attacked with a long extension from under the car. Also between the bottom of the downpipe and the cat there is a braided crush type gasket (might need to replace it to get a good seal) and the bolts are on springs to allow for movement of the engine.

Get some heat into the manifold nuts before attempting to remove if possible . Can mean the difference between coming undone and shearing off.
