coming to a Locost near you........soon, very soon
Jon
Mad as a Fu***ng goose, that's what you are!!
And we love you for it. In the metaphoric sense of the word obviously.
Chris PTM
Fireblade + Locost + Nitrous = big crash!!!
HMmmmmm
Ya got me thinking!!
let me know how you get along with them, all i have had is glowing reports. i am going for the 50bhp kit, progressive, so its not one sudden wallop,
from what i saw under your bonnet at Newark you would need 100bhp kit to feel the difference, were you gonna put all your bottles, water, NOS, your a
bit cramped allready are you not ?
James
I hope hope Mrs hicost has upped your life insurance, what is it 350+ horses at the moment.
so 350 + 100 at well under a ton, bloody hell thats eeeeeeerr lots.
i'm told NOS is a bit more potent on Turbo motors, bigger bangs inside make more power, hence more exaust gas = faster spin up on turbo, last months ccc had a car in, 480bhp track day car, nissan i think, but his 50 NOS kit was worth much more in reality when it gave the turbo a kick up the ass too, James, one or two have told me i'm mad, your bonkers.........go for it

good luck, and stuff it up em.......
You're both as mad as geese!
But I love you (obviously not in the marital sense!).
Nice photo James, I wonder who took it?
Chris PTM
Keeping with the locost theme,DIY nitrous anyone?
www.nitrous.info or
www.burgerman.info
i'm going DIY, but i have to buy the bits from some where.......
Much though I hate to labour the point jon, You are totally hatstand!!!!!!
Chris PTM (sane to a point!)
hicost/james
before i explore the world of "nos"
have you still got your old rev limitor that i can buy off you, cos i cant stop the valves bouncing about at 7500,
locodude, have you thought about it yet on the 1700 xflow???
Hi Steve
yes I have but I'm a bit more mechanically sympathetic I think. I rarely take the Tangerine dream past 6500-7000rpm. When I pick up my big valve head
next week though things may change!!!
See Ya
Chris PTM
p.s what diff and box are you running? You really need a 3.54:1 with a 1700.
sorry about my previous post, i hit return
without thinking "doh"
ptm
gearbox is "a rocket box with gear things inside that turn" and back axle is the original 1300 escort mk11
the gear box in the car at present came with the engine and was sold as "matched to to the 1700"
i have not got a clue to the ratio's except i prefer the original 1300 box for the gear ratio's except it would only do 100mph at 7000rpm
steve
i have seen all off the "nos" bits in hicost,s office
the aqualung bottle looks very impressive
but also very frightening!!!!!!!!!!!!!
steve
There is a practical limit to the power you can utilize. Nitrous is fine if you have the tires to lay down all that power. 350 HP..1200 pound car ? You are going to need tires with a huge footprint. Otherwise you've wasted your money. For whatever it is worth American winged sprint cars have about 700 HP, 1300 pounds, 15 inch wide rear tires. Without the wings they must de-tune the engines.

Starting away off the line or accelerating out of corners I agree with you, but get up to top gear the extra kick of the nos surely is well
utilised?
I would suggest this being the most likely use of it having read through what Hicost himself has typed in here....

Well at least if it developed a leak you could have a good laugh about it!!
(For non chemists: Nitrous Oxide = Laughing gas)
JamJah - 4/2/04 at 06:47 PMAt what point do you start to worry about brakes and bits?
Better get the misses used to showers so you can borrow the tub, F1 style!
