Complete whimsy: Locostbuilders attempt at IoM TT record.
TimC - 5/8/09 at 09:41 AM

I had a very strange thought last night: Wouldn't it be great if a Locostbuilder broke Tony Pond's Isle of Mann TT record for a 4-wheeled road car?

I even got as far as considering the appropriate driver and car. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Batman, errr... I mean Paul Rogers (Progers):

Next, given the ZX12 engine, we seek sponsorship from Kawasaki and make the attempt in TT warm-up week.

So, who's in?

Hi

I know Paul is now lapping Mallory in 100mph average. But the IOM would take a few laps to get used to and know it and car setup.
Right which console game has the IOM on it.

Cheers Matt

To break IOM record doesn't the rider/driver have to had all self preservation removed from his/her brain, not sure if Paul or his other half would be keen on this :p

Never mind, we could have Mrs Rogers' cakes at the wake. They're very good!

Having covered the IOM course pretty quickly in a hired Fiesta (optional go-faster fully comp insurance fitted), I would suggest that it would be a struggle/painful/expensive in anything other than a properly set up 4wd tarmac rally car!
You could do with leaving your brains in the paddock and fitting the optional much larger b*lls too!

Hi

Yea but we are talking about Batman here. He's a super hero.

Dose anyone else think that it is now time for Paul to buy a new race suit IE black and yellow. And a new black helmet.

Cheers Matt

It doesn't look like that at the moment though, not since the remodelling of the hairpin

progers - 5/8/09 at 11:39 AM

Whoooh! Steady on now chaps!!

Given my record for driving into walls I think the IOM might be a bridge too far

Seriously though I think a very powerful 4wd with top speed > 150 would be ideal for that course. Fun as it is to drive I think I would run out of talent very quickly if I tried to drive anywhere near the limit !

Anyone got a Nissan GTR I could borrow

Nice idea though....

- Paul

Hi

Yea but with a bit of Austens newly found tyre additive

Seriously though Andy Burton in his special machine would be a good choice of driver and car. Although not a member on here.

Cheers Matt

I take it you guys have seen the 100MPH lap by Tony Pond? Awesome!! That guy is a legend.

My favourite bit is when he calmly talks about a 5th gear tail slide at well over 120MPH when he goes over some white lines. "...and it's a fifth gear slide - not very pleasant." - No $hit Tony!!

I'd think a Skyline would be the ideal car to tackle the 100MPH lap. It is inherently stable due to the computer controlled rear wheel steering and would be brilliant through the fast sweeping corners. It also has huge lateral grip. I think a Locost would be better on slower speed, point and squirt routes rather than fast flowing courses like the TT.

Good idea though, although part of me wants Pondy's record to remain as a tribute to him.

Craig.

I know a memebr who will be getting his GT-R delivery date very soon!

100mph is that all....... why those loons at this years bike tt were topping 130mph laps and not so much as seat belt in sight...now there's big danglie bits for you

50mph more than enough for me with all those lamp posts and walls to bounce off

I had the privelige to have worked with TP in 85 and 86 and sat next to hime a few times. An awesome driver but so cool and collected all the time.

Here's a bit of the TT lap.

I think you might be along the right lines with Andy Burton and his 306-a-like special. Always a pleasure to watch him on stage rallies.
