Following on from Andy's thread here. Myself and a few others will be at Anglesey on 11th July. Anybody else fancy it?

They don't usually measure you at Anglesey on a 105db day unless you are incredibly loud. I've never been measured there at all. Times may have changed but if you can't get on a 105db day then you need a major rethink about noise anyway.

I've had to check with BaT that they'll let my car on. Their rules say MOT'd or scrutineered by the MSA.

I am 100% certain you will not have a problem. Their own cars aren't road regged. Tons of people do the track only thing these days. Have you emailed Jonny directly? jonny (at) bookatrack.com

Shame. They have been doing a last minute Donny day yesterday so that's probably why you've had no reply. But I assure you, if you change your mind then you will be fine to run your car.

I reckon Nick's Elise is ~300bhp/ton and handles like a dream. The other Elise looks standard but they always go well. Yup, 15 - 2 to the plastic clutters, some less plastic than others...

However, as long as the standards are high and Jonny remembers to tell noobs to move out of the way around the back of the circuit and not take the "overtaking on the straight only" too literally then we'll be alright.

As someone pointed out to me the other day, the GP adds some much needed overtaking opportunities but last time we did the coastal we just got a bit assertive at times and people were good.

Also it needed 2 front wheel bearings, 2 top,2 bottom ball joints, front pads, handbrake cable, it was over heating and more..
So not just 2 headlamps, 2 new cycle wings etc.

Well I've just got home and I'm knackered!

Had a great time. Good crack last night (thanks to worxs of the burgers). Early start with someone building a car this morning with much heckling. Wet track this morning was a bit daunting and had the back end stepping out regularly. Dried up after dinner (thanks to worxs of the burgers...again) and the speeds went up accordingly.

I only left the track once unscheduled but others made a habit of it (well one did). The Fury is definatly better than my driving though.

Good to meet a few more people off here. Thank for a great day guys.

ok maybee i just liked driving on the grass only once in the dry and derik(jubal) was recording me at the time but in the wet 4 times lol and one of them was the warm up lap.
as above nice to meets some of the guys from here as well.
ow and steve built his car by 7am lol

and i didnt get home till 11 then had to off load car from trailer and then drop my dad home

I'm not sure I can live up to that billing! I have only just (10 mins ago) packed away my car. Spent the entire weekend in bed ill and am still not good. Nah, he drove my car...where he was at the helm. The Riot drove away from me once it got dry, it was very well sorted indeed. Made me think.

The Riot was quick but (some of) the westies were even quicker. They were very track focussed machines.

There was one really quick Westie there - the green/black arches/full cage.

It was a track only car and he was running an overbored 1400 Busa, on slicks and it was in a different league to everything there!

Bike engined Westy was in fact a Caterham, he's put a few vids up, one of them HERE

Bike engined Westy was in fact a Caterham.


I think I know the car actually - there was a green overbored busa engined Caterham at a sprint at Llandow last year. I seem to remember him lapping in the thirty somethings which is mega. (I think Chris Gamlin laps in about 47secs for reference.)

I actually had a chat with him about how Caterham ship BEC chassis to OZ but won't sell them here.

Just watched his video's,difficult to time his laps because of traffic,but timed one lap at 1 minute14/15 seconds,so only 1 to 2 seconds a lap quicker than Andy D's laps in his son's zetec westfield,I think with the bec always sound like there going a lot faster,not always the case.

Although I'd tend to agree with you Paul, re the BEC noise, he was two up (with a fair sized lad) all day and the stuff he was leaving standing was impressive.

Whilst watching from the pitwall he was using his grip/slicks to good effect to get up to speed straight out the corners but he was going more than just a few miles an hour faster in most places.

I was going to do the timing thing myself but didn't have time!

Thanks Paul, to be honest I wasn't driving it like I stole it, more driving it like I'd have to fix it if I broke it! Didn't use the whole 8000 available revs.. Pinto driving habits are hard to drop..

It just objected to being driven slow enough to be over taken by a bath tub!

Turned out to be that going through the corkscrew, oil was getting up the breather into the air box then in through the throttles and burning. Only happened there. Cured it on the day with an Evian bottle (thanks Bigfoot), a zip tie and some gaffer tape; Instant catch tank!

Enjoyed the busa R1 battle Derek,Gezza likes to slide the back end about on the busa,like you say a bit off the westy lads pace,some of that may be down to tyres and set up,were you on slicks ?,it also must be your 1st time on the new circuit,I bet the next time you go you be even faster,I find it takes at least 3 or 4 visits to a circuit to learn the lines,although there are some very good drivers who can learn a circuit in a dozen laps,it takes most of us a bit longerlooks great circuit though,its just a pity its so far away

Both on R888s, so not full slicks like the westie guys. I have done the circuit before but with the blade engine. In my car I had some understeer on turn in/mid corner and some power oversteer. I think I need to do some more setup work but I'm not sure how much time to invest in the Indy chassis. I might just enjoy having more power than grip for a while and see what the year brings. All good fun!

Nice vids Derek, seeing all the arms and elbow work, it does look like you could do with a bit more rear end grip.
What size tyres are you on? Westys all seem to go best with 185 fronts and 205 rears. Have tried 205s on the front of my car, and it understeers, and 185s on the back cant put the power down..
The second hand slicks we use dont allways give a lot more grip than 888s, think it depends on the day and the state of the slicks.. but at £10 to £20 per corner, they make economic sense!

Think I'd be tempted to drop the fronts to 185s or even 175s as you've no weight on them, as a first step.. I know it sounds all arse about face going narrower for more grip, but it does work.. Look at that Caterham pic I posted earlier, massive rears, but the fronts are skinny.

I'll wear these suckers out first and think about it! The car was very grippy running rally tarmac tyres (Indysport) so I may go back to those. worX has been u2u'ing telling me to go softer springs on the front. Lots to try! But nowhere booked to test yet. Boo.

Re springs, obviously it all depends on individual car's geometry etc, but fwiw, son's zetec is on 400ib fronts and 280lb rears, it's solid as a rock!

The video is quite wide angle. Makes for a good field of view but it makes everything look slow.
