Following on from Andy's thread here. Myself and a few others will be at
Anglesey on 11th July. Anybody else fancy it?
A mate was there yesterday and posted this video to get us in the mood.
Will probably get booked on after the weekend. Another couple of Westys showing interest too.
Crazy Eddie reckons he's bringing his new tracktoy to show us up. I'm not so sure...
Well I'm not in work, so thats me out of excuses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh and if the missus asks, I put up more of a fight than that!

I'll probably book this tonight once I've had a few beers and I stop worrying about the state of my bank balance.

Derek -
1. I would think 'we' should be okay fir noise at 105db don't you think?
2. You need to change your BaT profile since you're now packing more than 130bhp!!
Steve
Do you see a theme developing?
They don't usually measure you at Anglesey on a 105db day unless you are incredibly loud. I've never been measured there at all. Times may
have changed but if you can't get on a 105db day then you need a major rethink about noise anyway.
Get it booked, you know it makes sense!
You're not booked on yet mate!!!

Their rules are stated like that to avoid numpties bringing MOT failure sheds along and ruining everyone's day.
Your car will be fine, as will anyone's track only machine that is well prepped.
it's a week before i go away on holiday, but i might have to buy a car just for the fun of it, if the fury aint finnished.
Just booked on. Not sure at this stage which car we'll be in. Pete's zetec engine should hopefully be fixed by then, and will be overdue an
outing.
Come on, let's fill it up with kitcars!

From the sound of that, I think I might be camping Thursday night.

Don't go wasteing time on a BEC convertion when you should be getting on with the Fury!
Should I trailer the car to Anglesey, or drive there, stay Fri' night as well and come home the scenic route Saturday?
adrian
B.T.T.T.
I've had a shocking week in work so haven't had a chace to call BaT. I've just sent a second e-mail. Surely being largely web-based they should have some interest in replying to an e-mail asking if I can spend £££ with them?
Looks like this trackday will be a good incentive to get the Indy finished.

No did info@....
I'll try that one.

Still no reply. Price has gone up. I'll take my cash elsewhere - I can probably do Llandow and an airfield day for the same money. Anglesey will have to wait.

Fourteen cars entered, and only two are tin tops, that's a healthy percentage!

If you count Elise's as lightweight, I make it 15 to 2 in favour of the nimble brigade on the attendees list.
..and a bump to the top.
I reckon Nick's Elise is ~300bhp/ton and handles like a dream. The other Elise looks standard but they always go well. Yup, 15 - 2 to the plastic
clutters, some less plastic than others...
There must be a few more takers out there. Come on folks.
look out for a brg westie, just got to do a bit of bargining with the owner, it has no seats or cycle wings.
cec though guys
its got a yellow nose cone and no front lights either i forgot that bit

the sale has fallen through, upon closer inspection the car needed alot more work than i was told.
It was a se 1700cc crossflow, sorry no team westie
Bad luck, ...forgot, we're taking the blue Westy anyway...if the engine all goes back in to plan.
Oh no, she will kill me and i may have to sack myself but im booked!!
So therefore derek you have a spare car

I really hope the ratio stays like that
However, as long as the standards are high and Jonny remembers to tell noobs to move out of the way around the back of the circuit and not take the
"overtaking on the straight only" too literally then we'll be alright.
As someone pointed out to me the other day, the GP adds some much needed overtaking opportunities but last time we did the coastal we just got a bit
assertive at times and people were good.

Phil
Nissan 200sx entered. ...but the "ratio" is still looking excellent!
Two weeks and counting. worX is building me a new gear change so the track slag should be ready. Sprint R booked on evens things up a bit. Crazy Eddie's XR2 racer takes it back down Hey ho.
just booked, first outing in the striker so could be interesting

Well I've just got home and I'm knackered!
Had a great time. Good crack last night (thanks to worxs of the burgers). Early start with someone building a car this morning with much heckling.
Wet track this morning was a bit daunting and had the back end stepping out regularly. Dried up after dinner (thanks to worxs of the burgers...again)
and the speeds went up accordingly.
I only left the track once unscheduled but others made a habit of it (well one did). The Fury is definatly better than my driving though.
Good to meet a few more people off here. Thank for a great day guys.

Just watched his video's,difficult to time his laps because of traffic, but timed one lap at 1 minute14/15 seconds,so only 1 to 2 seconds a lap quicker than Andy D's laps in his son's zetec westfield,I think with the bec always sound like there going a lot faster, not always the case.
worX - 15/7/08 at 04:06 AMAlthough I'd tend to agree with you Paul, re the BEC noise, he was two up (with a fair sized lad) all day and the stuff he was leaving standing was impressive.
Whilst watching from the pitwall he was using his grip/slicks to good effect to get up to speed straight out the corners but he was going more than just a few miles an hour faster in most places.
I was going to do the timing thing myself but didn't have time!

Turned out to be that going through the corkscrew, oil was getting up the breather into the air box then in through the throttles and burning. Only happened there. Cured it on the day with an Evian bottle (thanks Bigfoot), a zip tie and some gaffer tape; Instant catch tank!

PAUL FISHER - 16/7/08 at 10:49 AMEnjoyed the busa R1 battle Derek,Gezza likes to slide the back end about on the busa, like you say a bit off the westy lads pace, some of that may be down to tyres and set up,were you on slicks ?,it also must be your 1st time on the new circuit,I bet the next time you go you be even faster,I find it takes at least 3 or 4 visits to a circuit to learn the lines, although there are some very good drivers who can learn a circuit in a dozen laps,it takes most of us a bit longerlooks great circuit though, its just a pity its so far away
[Edited on 19/05/04 by PAUL FISHER]
Jubal - 16/7/08 at 11:10 AMBoth on R888s, so not full slicks like the westie guys. I have done the circuit before but with the blade engine. In my car I had some understeer on turn in/mid corner and some power oversteer. I think I need to do some more setup work but I'm not sure how much time to invest in the Indy chassis. I might just enjoy having more power than grip for a while and see what the year brings. All good fun!

Nice vids Derek, seeing all the arms and elbow work, it does look like you could do with a bit more rear end grip.
What size tyres are you on? Westys all seem to go best with 185 fronts and 205 rears. Have tried 205s on the front of my car, and it understeers, and 185s on the back cant put the power down..
The second hand slicks we use dont allways give a lot more grip than 888s, think it depends on the day and the state of the slicks.. but at £10 to £20 per corner, they make economic sense!

I have 195s all round. There wasn't a huge amount of rear end grip under power but I think my reaction to it (bearing in mind it's not a quick rack) exaggerated things somewhat. What you can't really see on the vid is the understeer. At times I had understeer and oversteer at the same time. That made for some twitchy arms!
I was also able to make the tyres go off after a long session. The (brand new that day) rears went bad after following Gezza (25 mins on track) and again the next session. They came back after cooling down but it's a sign all's not well. I guess if you up the power then other things need looking at in proportion. I'm just pleased it's going reliably now.

Think I'd be tempted to drop the fronts to 185s or even 175s as you've no weight on them, as a first step.. I know it sounds all arse about face going narrower for more grip, but it does work.. Look at that Caterham pic I posted earlier, massive rears, but the fronts are skinny.
Gezza - 16/7/08 at 04:37 PMGreat video Derek, you must have cleaned your lense, somthing i must learn to do!!! Anyway, sounds like slicks next
Oh and more power, cant have you keeping up like that haha, i am working on the fueling as we speak, its not getting up to max revs fast enough, think its nearly there so i look forward to the next dual

The video is quite wide angle. Makes for a good field of view but it makes everything look slow.
