when entering cat er ham as one word it is sometimes changed to cateringvan, which was orginally funny about 6 years ago, now just plan anoying and nerd like.

yeah but caterham are really hot on anyone saying anything bad about them. This way it gives you (well the web site owner) a little protection when they threaten legal action!!!

Its the same on all lists I think the sevens list has it set to Boderum or something equally as silly.

stephen_gusterson - 16/3/04 at 10:53 PM

you could always just refrain from using the name at all

There must be more important things in life to get upset about.

I think Mike hit the nail on the head. A certain car manufacturer seem to think it clever to send nasty letters to people that write anything negative about their product. Happy to change it back tho if the general consensus is that it would be preferred?

i didnt think about the legal implications, thats probably because i wasnt saying anything bad about them.
for the record i am not upset about it,it just seemed very petty.

as far as legal implications go, how much are you (Chris) responsible in the eyes of the outside world for what we write. I mean, if someone were to slag off a product/company in the post, surely its nothing to do with you?

But then again, that company would have a hard time tracking down/suing that individual, so you would be the easiest target. Hmmm.

Suppose its the same with most law, its all in the interpretation.

Well so far I have recieved two threats of action over someone voicing bad opinion of a company. Both times the old "Please send a formal complaint, outlining your exact grounds for concern and a copy of the text in question to XXX address and I will consider removing within 14 days" has shut them up. Heard nothing more on the subject!

i think legally given the little disclaimer at the bottom, the person who writes the comments is legally at risk. but chris would be the one to get all the hassle because he's the owner/admin so first point of contact
