Centre alignment in Opera browser
David Jenkins - 12/7/03 at 08:42 PM

Chris,

Just an odd one... when I look at this site using the Opera browser, everything comes out centre aligned. Other browsers are OK - is this an Opera 'speciality' or are the other browsers more forgiving?

The reason for asking is that I normally access the internet using a Linux box, and Opera is the best browser available on that platform...

cheers,

David

I've not tried it on Opera but, as I've never seen it happen, I guess it's a funny associated with that browser.

I'll investigate...

With the recent spate of IE vulnerabilities, I decided to migrate off of MicroShaft Exploder and use something a little more secure. OPERA...

Problem with Opera is that the forum tables appears centered instead of left justified. It's slightly annoying since this is the site I visit most often.

Chris, I know why it's doing that. In Opera, apparentlyy tables nested within other tables inherit the properties of the master table unless you specifially tell it otherwise. Since the main table for the page is <align=center> every nested table not told to aligh=left will align=center. You have to modify your template so that every nested table is hardcoded with <table align=Left>.

I'm pretty sure that will solve the problem

PS -And I REALLY appreciate you taking the time to fix it!

Steve,

If ChrisW can't/won't fix the problem (oh, you will, you will, you will, YOU WILL [Mrs Doyle voice off]) then you could try Mozilla, which I use at home and work. Lots of nice features, free, full control of pop-ups and no annoying ads in the top-right corner (as in free Opera).

David

The site should come out centre aligned - or rather the outer frames (eg the one with the logo and the various options in) should be in the centre (horizontally) of the page.

What exactly is happening with Opera? Can you send me a screenshot? All the linux boxes I run have no GUI on them so I can't really check.

Chris,

Have you looked at Steve's suggestion?

If that's not the problem then I can do a screen dump - but there is a Windows version of Opera that behaves the same way, if you want to have a play.

Opera website

You don't need the Java version to test out this problem.
