Just looking at powder coating my R1ot chassis and was wanting to know what the most popular colour choice is.

Jason, mine is as bought i.e. Black.
The raceteams in the early years used to paint their chassis light Blue as they reckoned any cracks or splits (heaven forbid) showed up as Grey or Black lines!

How much is it to powder coat a chassis?

I got a really good deal today on another way of coating the chassis that i am considering when i build it.

Highly unimaginative satin black! I didn't want it powdercoated but the one that they had was already coated so I got it at no extra charge

never seen a "gray" powder coat but i have seen grey, LOL

Im going with yellow to keep with Yamaha 50th aniversary racing colours

metalic silver for now, maybe matt purple (like the new dairymilk wrapper) next winter

Unimaginative Black for me, but I having seen Alan B's chasis in Gre(a)y I think that looks pretty smart.

Mine is mild steel coloured with tints of some colour i beleive is called surface rust or summat like that

Nato green

For a racing car follow the professionals, light grey (gray), light blue or white enamel.
Shows any cracks, helps with locating oil leaks and it's much easier to see the mechanical bits in contrast.

Satin black here. Cellulose though cos don't like powder coating. Advantage of black is that can completely change body colour at a later date and it will still look ok. Paint the chassis Kawasaki green for example and ur stuck with having the whole car that colour. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing as long as u don't have a Kawasaki engine under the bonnet as well.

Damn it!

Thought I'd got my mind sorted at black, now I've got another dsecision to make!!

Car to be yellow, so what to do for chassis, colour to match or colour to show up cracks etc? (Paranoid or what?)

Started out silver/grey but ended up white. The problem is that it turned kind of gray after a while as dust settled on it. It does keep you after it though, which can't be bad.

I had a car with a black rollcage and didn't like it at all. Trying to work in the footwells was made hard due to the black color sucking all the light out of the area and making it very hard to see things.

The mid-engine Mini got a light gray/grey powdercoat and I'm very happy with it. The light color helps illuminate dark corners by reflecting light. OTOH, the gray color is "calm", not a bright color (like lime-green) that is visually distracting when driving. But, like anything color related, it's all opinion, paint it however it makes you happy.

At the moment its covered in rust. The powder coating has generally pealed off. Guess what I am doing in the next few weeks

Mine's poppy red - why don't you go for a multi - coloured harlequin - like look if you can't make your mind up?

Only kidding - not possible with powder coating for technical reasons!

I've put gray but most of the powder coating is coming off in sheets. If I ever build another car I will prime and paint the chassis myself!

I had a black chassis and never liked it because it sucked all the light out of the corners which made it hard to see what I was doing. The last car was light gray, Much better and far easier to see down in the footwell.
