hey all!
first post here so thanks for havin me, even if i'm a poor student who can't afford to build anything
was just wondering if anybody had picked up this months kitcar mag which has the new RH catalogue packaged with it.
Inside it are details of their new product the "RH Lightweight" - the interesting bit about this being that the chassis is made from
pre-punched, pre-folded panels riveted together to make a body/chassis unit.
oh yeah an for £200 extra you can specify it in aluminium an they're estimated weight with this option is 57KG!!!!!
all this for £995 + VAT
sounds like a great alternative to those who have trouble welding!
details are on they're site
once again, cheers for this site, it's given me tons of ideas and knowledge already!
It has already been discussed to death -- the forum verdict by a huge majority was it would have been interesting if ANY other manufacturer than
Robin Hood was behind it.
Robin Hood Engineerings engineering and quality standards don't have a lot of credibility in these parts.

oh right, sorry
did a forum search before I posted an it didn't produce any replies.
you sure we're talking about the same thing?
I see the misunderstanding now - I looked up "Robin Hood Lightweight" and got nought.
all the relevant stuff is under "Robin Hood Chassis"
apologies all round
damn i must look like such a noobie!
still think the finished car in the catalogue looks quite good, as does the weight an cash saving - then again a big mac looks good in the adverts!

You should see one "in the flesh" poorly finished with sharp edges everywhere, self tappers replacing rivets in some places and different
sized rivets on the same run.
Still, It's your money
Cheers
Chris
Concur with chrisg, we saw one at the Exeter show, it was knicknamed the 'Cheesegrater'
Also worth bearing in mind that at 57kg is not thatn much lighter than a bare locost "book" chassis.
Probably due to 47kg's of self tappers

same principles, better execution.
I have produced structures in this manner before but never to this scale or complexity.
The basic principles are OK.. but.....
In order to achieve a worthwhile result I beleive (IMHO) that it would be difficult for most locoster's... the main problem is that we for the
most part don't have access to the necessary bending/forming equipment needed to produce the component parts of the chassis.
Ive got to say I picked up the new Robin Hood catalogue at Stafford and as a PR job (read bullshite) its superb, lots of pics of nice looking motors
for sod all dosh.
I was even thinking to myself I'd have been better buying one of thier kits than going the locost route.
But then I remembered I know a guy who bought one back in 1998 and he still hasnt finished it cos nothing fits and the quality was tat,I think
he's given up on it now but havent seen him for months.
Its probably true that they sell more kits than anyone else and with the new catalogue they'll sell even more but how many get finished is
another story.
Cheers,
Bob
