size of tube for holding body parts

I have decided to break up my one piece front end and just use an opening bonnet and tilting nose cone. This is mostly being done to allow me to use the original donor bonnet( center strip anyway) to keep just within some certain laws in Canada. I have full fenders and want to mount them off the sides. would .75x.75 18 gauge be strong enough or even .5x.5
Thanks
Dale

my first thought is that 0.5" sound a bit small, but I guess it depends on how you plan to build the outriggers...

how many of them, how long will they end up, what sort of weight are they supporting and are you going to be able to build in any triangulation ?

An example that springs to mind is the Endineered to Slide Hilux, he used a lot of small tubes to hold lights and the rear panel etc on. Ill add some photos if I remeber
