Looking for suggestions of a 2.5mm/3.2mm mild steel arc welding rod, that strikes well and weld. Rather than some that strike/stick and not weld, pig
to weld and ends like bird shite.
I used one make years ago that you could easily strike and weld blindfolded, then the slag would peel up or drop off.
But the name, cannot remember other than they had a pale blue flux coating.
Manufacturers I found or know of:
Eutectic
Bohler
MWA
SIF
BOC etc
Have a look on Amazon, maybe go for something with a high star rating
i think i know the ones you mean, blue / grey striped box ?, orlekon rings a bell

Dark grey box, non-glossy, with a deep blue text. Does sound like Oerlikon.
If they are, these are the rods I use. The box is now glossy, but the contents are still good. They weld beautifully, with the slag curling up nicely
when it cools. Backing the rod up at the end of a run removes any depression, really user friendly, they're superb.
