BOC Gas re-fills
Julian1649 - 27/11/07 at 06:08 PM

I have various BOC bottles that I wish to have re-filled but I do not have an account with BOC.
Does anybody know if there is anyone offering a refill or exchange service. The gases are Oxygen, Acetylene and Argonsheild.
Thanks

The bottles will belong to BOC so you'll need to get them filled by BOC.

Do you know anyone with an account ? Or you could sign up for a minimum contract yourself and send your empties back at the end on the contract ?

Failing that you'll have to bite the bullet and dig deep

Very, Very Deep.

The price of bottle rental is almost criminal.
Almost £100 per year for my argoshield bottle.

Then BOC have the neck to charge you for collecting your own gas.

Some Scrappy,s might swap the Oxy bottle for you.

I have retired my MIG and bought a DC inverter, no gas to buy and weighs next to nothing.

BOC are pretty militant in protecting their monopoly (as are good old Air Products). Their price increases have stormed ahead of inflation. That said, if the bottles you are using are not paid hire on they are regarded as stolen and/or unsafe/untested (even though still circulating back to BOC eventually)
I had a mate who used to use plant hire companies (the ones that hire out gas cutting equimpent and therefore have gas stocks. It's not strictly cosher but everyone gets paid.

Agreed the price of hire for a year is high but for a medium sized bottle I'm sure I'm paying about £60 a year

Until recently I've always been able to do some welding for various people and made enough to cover the cost of rental, just as my mates have got better off and run newer cars and I've become less tolerantof lying under wrecks getting covered in hot sparks have I had to switch to shelling out for rental, its's just so nice when I need to use it that it's there, and ready.

Hi BOC. Forget it have a look for a local ENERGAS

Mostly based midlands upward but they are less than 1/2 the price of BOC. And the sweetener is that the bottles are usually full rather than the 3/4 that boc call full .

Cheers Matt

I've been plugging Energas for years now, glad to see someone else has caught on. They don't have an "administration fee" if you fetch your own. I have two depots handy, Derby and Sutton in Ashfield both within 20 minutes. Bottles are 300 bar as mentioned so you get more gas.
