Hi guys, just out of interest - people who have built thier own chassis out of round tube, what spec round tube have you used and how much did it cost per meter?

Many Thanks

Funny that you should mention round tube - there has just been a mas debate on that subject over on the yank site: Round Tube Linky

i am using 38mm erw 2.5mm which i have been told by someone that works with tvr is the size they use, hence the reason im using it.

1" 16swg, it was the common size as I tried to get swg18 to no avail.

made the bottom half from 1" box 16swg so I could rivit and glue the floor.

My ex. TVR engineer friend told me it was mostly 1.5" (near enough 38mm) but with 16g wall (1.6mm)..2.5mm seems a bit heavy to me....not that it matters much if you have built it already...

yeah it probably is a bit heavy but, so far calculating it the chassis doesnt weigh that much, so hopefully if anything its probably stronger than needed.
price of it from A1steel is £17.50 ish per 20ft length

I let the U.S. race association SCCA dictate what I should use, which was 1.5" x 0.090 for the rollcage. The large tubing ahead of and behind that was the same size, but thinner so as to be crush areas. The smallest tubing was mostly 1" 16ga square.
