Haynes roadster chassis questions
piddy - 1/9/08 at 08:05 PM

Does the Haynes roadster have a unique chassis design? Is it the same as a locost chassis? I’m told it is based on a mcsorley + 4 is there any truth in this? are any of the 7 Manufacturers making the Chassis's for these?

Yes. No. No. Yes.

Suppose I should try to be more helpful.

It's a +2 design, and there's a couple of traders on here who make them (Mr. Henderson IIRC?).

Also Triton/Fabbyglass does a chassis package as well as the bodywork
There's also a company that'll send you a "flat-pack" of chassis members, all cut to length and the ends angled.

Lots of info over on the Haynes Roadster Forum

This lot do a flat pack if you want to weld your own chassis.

Mc Sorley +4 is 2" wider than the Haynes.

Locost is the Std, Haynes +2" on that and Mc Sorley is +2" on that. (ie +4" on a Locost).

All good designs, just depends on what you want to do or can fabricate yourself.

You do have direct access to Chris G via this and the Haynes Forum. Which has to be good.
Having said that Jim Mc Sorleys chassis is pretty good as well. He just lives on the other side of the big pond (atlantic).

my vote is for the haynes. it has been a joy sofar to build.

armoto supplied me the chassis tubing pre cut (just stick it together with a welder)

and 3ge components supplied the steel plates an a few other parts.

both are good to deal with. although armoto are a little bit better at answering the phone than g3ge lol :-) not that it makes much difference when the shiney parts turn up :-)
