I had a wee accident this morning in the Indy. I have no idea how it happened, as I wasn't going remotely fast. I was on my way to work to redo the interior ironically, and as I came on to the slip road (downhill) off the big roundabout after filling the car up, the back end just went. Caught it one way, then the front wheel passenger side went onto the verge and after that I was a bit of a passenger, managed to have time in that weird slow mo that happens when its gone pete tong, to see if there was anything coming down the slip road while it was sliding sideways and get it round enough so the back corner (as you can see) took the impact rather than the front suspension. I was doing less than 30 when it first lost grip, as it had chucked it down and was still spitting. I am fine - though i am pissed off and f@cking glad nowt was coming behind me! Hit the barrier quite slowly and it span me round the right way so I could get onto the verge out of the way on the inside.

Clearly my fault although I have no idea what set it off. I have been round there hundreds of times much quicker in both cars - perhaps the downpour onto dry tarmac brought all the oil etc to the surface and I was just unlucky.

Chassis seems fine but obviously I will get it checked. Managed to drive it home fine.

Anyone know how much a new tub and 2 wheel arches are

eeek , glad to hear you are alright though, damage doesn't look too bad, was there any damage to the wheel and rear suspension etc

Nasty, but as you said, could have been so much worse.

Roundabout near a petrol station, or an industrial estate + rain = lethal (IMHO).

In all honesty I doubt there would have been much you could do to avoid that. Sandy Lane roundabout in Newcastle is almost undrivable in the wet. It is close to two industrial estates where HGV's fill up with diesel. I think a lot gets spilled there. Add a bit of rain, especially after a dry spell and it's like an ice rink.......

Hobzy, commiserations but cars are a lot easier to fix than broken bones etc.
Guess it all comes down to how light Se7ens are on the back end. All it takes is some diesel smoker to have overfilled their tank and left a slick on the exit to the corner, bit of rain or damp and your gone. As most bikers will tell you it's the one thing you can never fully anticipate.
Hope it doesn't take too long/too much to fix.

Slap some fi-glass in there, and a new rear lense, and youre back on the road (assuming no suspension or chassis damage).

Then order up some new bits and fit at your leisure.

As said, probably some diesel.

I used to commute 50 miles into London on a motorbike - I used to dread heavy rain after a long dry spell, as it brought all the oil and rubber up to the surface and made the road evil to drive on.

My Locost's quite 'lively' in the wet, and will snake all over the road if I'm even a touch heavy on the throttle, even without added oil!

Shame about the accident - but glad you weren't hurt.

As said above - GRP's easier to fix than bones!

Whats the measurements on the rear panel. I've got one in black which doesn't fit my oddly shaped back end (no that's not what the missus thinks! )

hmm I crawl round roundabouts in the wet when on the bike (like this morning) way to much fuel spills to chance going fast. Looks easy to fix the car though

Damn bad luck there fella. I had a spin yesterday at just over 100mph at Croft (see link) and unbelievably only a few scratches to the panels...

Lesson learnt, it doesn't take much. For a real adrenaline rush, try riding a motorcycle... if you can keep your eyes off the constant scan for cameras, other road users (I've been polite), holes, debris, etc., you may have time to spot diesel fuel or animal slurry. If not, it really is an easy route to A+E.
Llandow at the weekend, just a little moisture on top of all the drifting rubber laid down previously made it rather interesting in the 7 at times..

Bad luck but glad that you're ok. Out of interest, what tyres were you using?

I could not pull onto the main road just outside our unit the other day due to diesel, slipperier than ice, just sat at junction with wheel spin, (van not 7)...........

As above, you safe that's the number 1 consideration.

i also dread going out on the bike after a dry spell on wet roads, tip toe isn't the word

Cheers for the kind thoughts people. Much appreciated. I feel a bit of a tit really but TBH I really don't feel as if I was doing anything silly when it went, so I suppose I shouldn't dwell on it.

The mate from work came up here bless him, and we stripped the back off the car, pulled out the interior panels which is what we were going to do anyway at work, and stripped the firewall and dash, so actually got more done than we would have! Silver lining and all that.

Cant see any damage to the chassis or suspension and there's no movement in the wheel bearings etc.

In the end, the fact that it should only cost a couple of hundred to fix is why I swapped from a fettled tintop anyway - If I had done this in the S works then I'd be looking at thousands to repair.

Yer the blog does need updating and no doubt a few spelling mistakes

The build is going well all be it slow, but thats my fault spending to much time on the little things no one will see at the end anyway!
