I finally recieved my MK exhaust, but it doesn't appear to be a good fit at all. I'm hoping for advice.
I had the manifold piece before Christmas, but due to one thing and another I didn't get the silencer end until yesterday. Only problem it
doesn't seem to fit. There's an adapter section with the silencer, but it doesn't fit over the manifold end as you'd expect, and
it seems to be too short - leaving the silencer too far away from the rear wheels. The angles seem all wrong too. Everything is MK - so I'm
wondering is the adaptor pipe for a Pinto engined car and not a Blade?
Any ideas? Have a look at these pics, maybe they'll explain better!
and
I have an MK blade exhaust . The collector on the manifold pipie does not look like mine. My angles were fine except 25mm too close to the car. I have
put that down to the fact that the car is a Tiger not MK and had to cut and shut and weld sections Still cheaper than getting one made .
Check with Martin, he is bound to sort it out , measure the diameters first, my manifold pipe is 50mm OD
The outside diameter of my manifold pipe is 2 and 1/4 inches - about 56mm. It definitley is a Blade manifold, it fits like a glove!
The other point I forgot to mention is my MOT is on Monday. AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!
I have some piping that I can rig something up with if I don't get it sorted out by then. Should be OK.
As lightning says give Martin a ring, I am sure he will sort you out /advise you what to do.
It's a bit difficult to see from your photo's but the joining piece should be bent at roughly the same angle as the bend in the side panel.
The manifold is roughly parallel to the front part of the sidepanel, then you have the bent adaptor and then the silencer sits roughly parallel with
the rear part of the sidepanel (mine is pushed in slightly to get the silencer on the mount), see fr_susp in my photo's.
Ben
you7 do not have the right adaptor from the dowm pipes unto the silencer. Mine goes over the downpipes and you should have stainless steel clips to hold it on. Mine did not fit right even with the right pieced and i ended up cutting the adaptor and re welding it up again. Mine is in my opinion still to near the bodywork, silencer that is. Hope this of some help David
Our's came with a bent adapter as Ben says...
You need one quick!
I was on the phone to MK this morning and I have the answer if not (yet) the solution. It seems since I had my manifold delivered (October 2003)
there has been a change in this part. The silencer and the adaptor pipe are made for the newer manifold. The newer part has a smaller diameter
collector, and is further back on the car, so my pipe doesn't fit it and even if it did the silencer would be in the wrong position. The delay
in getting my silencer was basically due to Bill Adair (Ireland MK agent) being extremely busy, and Bill and MK are doing their best to sort it out.
I suspect they'll have a new adaptor pipe made that will taper down to the right size, and also provide the right length. The only other
alternative is a new manifold, but at £200 quid a pop I don't think that'll happen.
Thanks for the help folks. I'll let you know what happens.
Cheers
Alister
Oh yes, and a happy St. Patrick's Day y'all!
With a lot of help from my Dad we knocked up an adaptor that works well.
I expect I'll get a nice shiny stainless steel adaptor from Bill at some point, but I should have enough to get me through the MOT.
Thanks again for the help.
well done Al! good luck with your mot- mine is on friday!

Scotlad,
Thanks very much, and good luck yourself.
good luck with the test, we should get together soon as i am also in edinburgh

where's this queue?
mangogrove has already said you would like a shot so i'll give you a shout when its on the road. driving it to the mot- should be a laugh- hope nothing falls off!
... not with you building it...
Good luck that man!
PS Do you still need that aluminium for the prop
yes yes yes please-using crappy steel box section- not good but do for mot!
