Fuel tank
EasyJimbo - 22/11/09 at 05:10 PM

Picked up my fuel tank from MK today at the exeter show, and they didnt have the straps they usually sell to fix them on with. I asked about this and they said they dont do them anymore and I should just bond the tank onto the brackets of the chassis. Does that sound ok, I would have though the straps were a must?
thanks
J

No

Just make some up out of 25mm wide 16swg steel strip.

Use straps, always. Fuel tanks are heavy when full and I have seen welded mounting tabs crack through fatigue.

Always use either plastic coated straps or plain straps with rubber insertion between the tank and metal surfaces to allow some movement but prevent chaffing.

LPG conversion parts suppliers sell suitable plastic coated straps in kit form up to 1500mm long.
