MK Pinto Engine Mounts
James - 9/1/03 at 01:38 AM

Just a quickie please!

Those of you that have bought MK's Pinto mounts (the type that use the Fiesta gearbox mount), are they the same length each side or is the left longer than the right?

If they're the same, I take it the chassis mount point is (approx) 30mm inboard on the left side relative the the right hand one?

Thanks,

James

Same length mate.

But end plate that bolts to eng is set at an angle, not sure about mount plate position far too cold out there to check right now

auzziejim - 9/1/03 at 07:26 AM

are the MK pinto mounts suitable for the sierra 1.6?

James - 9/1/03 at 10:14 AM

Thanks Bob.

Blimey! Listen, cutting 50x50x3mm box by hand isn't easy ok- sort your facts out!

Only joking Bob, thanks for that. I hope you're monkeys aren't too brassed as a result!

I've resorted to two oil filled radiators in my garage. They get turned on when I get home from work and by the time I'm changed and have eaten the air temp is slightly above freezing.

Thanks,

James

Really sorry about this mate, but i had to measure it properly and guess what !!!!.
Both the same length, its one of those optical illusions or whatever.
Drivers side is set at a steeper angle so it looks shorter,i know someone who builds indy's profesionally so i'll ask him for you.

bob - 10/1/03 at 10:31 PM

I've just finished reading the section on mounts in the avon book, they are unequel lengths for the pinto in there

So back in the garage and measure up again, getting bored with this now.
Still the same from the top,but drivers side is steeper set and if there is a difference its not much.

bob you seem to be that man to ask here are all Pinto mounts the same? or will i need different mounts for a 1.6l to your 2.0l?

bob - 10/1/03 at 11:19 PM

I think they are all the same but i'm sure one of the pro mechanics will put me right.
I am actually a bit confused with the mounts bit as nearly everyone i've spoke to have unequal lengths, mine are just different angles.
Still the eng and box are in and all seems well so who cares.

speedthing - 11/1/03 at 12:04 AM

they do differ in angle if you look at the
webbing on the pinto block it sticks out further on one side

redeye - 11/1/03 at 10:43 AM

r u going to put up some pics of the car with the engine and gearbox in bob?

bob - 11/1/03 at 11:48 AM

As soon as i can blag another digi cam i'll put a couple on

bob - 11/1/03 at 01:07 PM

Right sorted it,although if i'd looked more carefully in the 1st place blah blah blah.

Mounts for pinto are the same length RHS each side, they are though set in a different position on plate that bolts to rubber mount each side. Thus making it a longer reach on one side.

James
hope this sorts it out for you

bob there should be 30mm difference between the two.

mac#1 - 11/1/03 at 04:42 PM

all sohc pinto mounts ie 1300/1600/1800/2000cc are the same.

Yep 4sure there is 30mm diff, but not in arm length.Mine are set 30mm further over on base plate, but maybe thats just mine.
I bet there are loads of different variations, suppose at the end of the day as long as it works.

Would the fact that your mounts seem to be different be anything to do with your engine coming from a Transit?

Just a thought (very unusual for me!)

No andy tranny block is the same as car,the reason is time and ease of fabrication.its a lot easier and quicker to chop a load of steel the same size, and then have a jig for left and right IMO.
