MK indy & MAC1
graememk - 7/7/07 at 09:23 AM

can anyone tell me about them?

i think it all went on before my time in the kit car world, but why do they look like the same car, i can only assume one if a copy of the other.... i might regret asking this question i think.

i suppose if it gets out of hand i'll delete the post

So my new question will be, do they share the same irs back end?

ch1ll1 - 7/7/07 at 09:47 AM

They are spelt different

omega 24 v6 - 7/7/07 at 10:10 AM

Go for the Mac 1 the guys at Newark were fantastic with their Craik. Not the same passion and enthusiasm from the Mk stand IMVHO.

SeaBass - 7/7/07 at 10:54 AM

Allegedly MAC 1 made some of the Indy chassis for MK. They then started building there own cars which are fairly similar... All allegedly of course.

Cheers

ch1ll1 - 7/7/07 at 12:35 PM

so that would make it a mac1mk

Confused but excited. - 7/7/07 at 03:36 PM

It's just like deja vu, all over again!

bigrich - 7/7/07 at 04:11 PM

i think were safe from the popcorn guys this time, i pretty much goes like this Mark builds a locost on his patio and someone buys it from him ,start building MK's for customers with Colin as Mac#1 motorsport. they have ideas to" improve", alter the cars they were building so decide to do there own version of a sierra based kitcar initially with outside help then built in house "except grp".
whilst outwardly similar looking there are lots of differences both outwardly and under the skin.
the Mac1 chassis has undergone 3 or 4 redesigns to my knowledge in the last 3 years or so.Bulkheads etc have been altered and engines moved backwards so things like gearlevers fit without modification or dash clearence problems and weight is more centralised in the car.
the side panels of a Mac1 have the same curved shape as the rear panel to give an improved fit and look to the joint of both panels.
ultimatly the cars do look similar to each other as do most sevens regardless of manufacturer but if you look closely there are lots of differences just not always easy to spot.
I personally could easily have been MK owner haveing visited them before my first build.but at that time the business had just changed hands from martin and all did'nt really seem settled at MK at that time so the enthusiasm of Mac#1 and the offer of a passenger ride on a track day won the day and have been very happy with the cars, people since. though had i visited MK at a different time things may have been different.

pawgrp - 7/7/07 at 04:17 PM

Mac1 used to buy thier chassis from Martin Keenan. They then built these up to order . One day in the dim and distant past there was a fall out and after that mac 1 made their own arrangments on the chassis front.

graememk - 7/7/07 at 04:31 PM

ok i've always wondered.

So my new question will be, do they share the same irs back end?

bigrich - 7/7/07 at 05:35 PM

yeah both normally use the sierra

sorry could'nt resist that

bigrich - 7/7/07 at 05:38 PM

have a look in my archive at the picture called rear end OOH er

this is from my last build and is a normal rear end

jack trolley - 7/7/07 at 06:25 PM

2 of those bolts aren't showing many threads beyond the locknuts.

snoopy - 7/7/07 at 09:31 PM

snoopy - 7/7/07 at 09:54 PM

and indy rear or not ?

how about this

[Edited on 7/7/07 by snoopy]

graememk - 8/7/07 at 07:54 AM

so does the mac1 have the same problems as the indy then ?

if there is a problem at all ?

mad-butcher - 8/7/07 at 08:20 AM

Hi charlie
which was the one who built a copy and then fitted the top wishbones upside down then claimed it improved handling, i think at one stage there were about 6 copies at the various shows.
Tony

snoopy - 8/7/07 at 10:29 AM

that would have been SPD tony and we all know what happend to them

so does the mac1 have the same problems as the indy then ?

OF COURSE IT DOES !!
the indy was the first kit to use irs and sierra doner parts
EVERYONE COPPIED IT

bigrich - 8/7/07 at 11:45 AM

Snoopy is it 2 MK's NOT an MK rear end and a USof A copy/clone of the indy

As to the handling issue it probably is there but its not as much of an issue as people would have you believe it is.

I think it may only be an issue if your looking for the last few tenths round a track etc. IMHO for what its worth

snoopy - 8/7/07 at 01:21 PM

CLOSE 2 OUT OF THREE

100% CORRECT ITS INSIGNIFICANT AND WILLNEVER BE EVEN NOTICED BY 99 % OF DRIVERS

Marlon - 8/7/07 at 04:50 PM

can I have a go then snoopy?
An mk on the left, copy on the right?
Not an mk rear end and
