ABS shafts in Indy uprights?
garage19 - 14/1/04 at 01:39 PM

What size is the hole in the Indy rear uprights?

I know i have to machine the toothed ABS sensor ring off my xr4x4 driveshafts but am not sure what diameter to go down to?

Can anybody help?

Thanks,

Doug.

I seem to have an echo!

I found that once i hit steel it seemed enough.

Can someone please tell me why MK don't just make the hole 3/4mm wider?

James

They have got to give you something to complain about

The rear hub carriers were originaly made for drums, its just easier to manufacture the same shaft hole size and adapt the shafts.
Although for rear calipers the other difference is positioning of the four bolt holes which connect the hub to hub carrier.

Bob,

The hole centres and positions are the same for both drum and disk brakes.

The main through hole diameter of the carrier is 2mm bigger for disks.

And yes turning off the ABS teeth and a light "clean up" cut is plenty.

Cheers

The reason "one size doesn't fit all" is if the main hole dia of the main body was made larger to fit either drums or disc's the carrier would be weaker as the hole centre's would be nearly broked throu.

The lesson 'ere as in most fings is stop questioning Martin design and production methods as he's clever than you !!

Bolt holes for hubs are in different possition on my carrier to drum type, this was pointed out to me when i ordered chassis from the clever one.

Interesting

My carriers where purchased for drums but then I decided to go with disc's. I phoned MK and he said they where the same except the size of the throu hole!!

I then bored out a couple of mm from the centre hole and then I turned down the shafts.

The hubs bolted on fine !!

Strange one that, maybe all hubs are made with the four bolt holes at an angle now.
ie: not square on as you look at them.

Although mine is an early indy,so there may have been some changes in hub carrier design.
