shades - 23/6/06 at 12:44 PM

Just tried fitting the body... all seemed Ok till I looked at the back wheels. Guess I have my wishbones on wrong? Where is the weld marks supposed to go again?

'kin 'ell

Aren't Avon's so badly made that the arches stick out from the back panel a couple of inches? That would make it look right... but wrong IYSWIM

Just swap them over can't you?

Steve

what do you mean swap them over? either side of the car or rotate 180 degree?

IYSWIM? lost me here too? I must be getting too old of acronyms. only figured out LOL a few weeks back...

Hellfire - 23/6/06 at 01:13 PM

rotate 180 degrees - either side.

If You See What I Mean - IYSWIM

ah I'll add it to the list.

Yea, Ill go and give it a try. i did find a post discussing it, but went on for about 7 pages even with contributions from my self, but am still none the wiser...

Do not fit the wishbones as shown in the book "How to build a Tiger Avon" Because its wrong. It was wrong in the first edition and was still wrong in the second edition.
All you have to do is flip the bone's over 180 degrees.

the small lines of weld need to be pointing down and on the rearmost leg of the wishbone....

Have heard of this problem before. When 'properly' assembled there is a slight twist to the shock and it seems quite close to the top rear wishbone leg when the car is jacked up - but apparently this is normal?

I dismissed my own worries with the knowledge that despite the 'strange' setup - reports from several drivers are that it actually handles really well.........

Nearly back together... welds on the wishbones to the back and the spacers to the front. By the looks of it it will have moved the wheels forward by a couple of inches... Will post another photo later

mookaloid - 23/6/06 at 03:32 PM

I bet you had a mild heart attack when you first put the wheel on!

shades - 23/6/06 at 03:37 PM

Naw... getting used to doing things wrong the first time and then re doing them. Took the day off work to some more on the car. Its now 4:30 and all I have done is take some bits off and put them back on a different way.

scoobyis2cool - 23/6/06 at 04:15 PM

I think you'll find the wishbones are on fine, it's the rest of the car that's the wrong way round

Is that like "turn them over"?

Hellfire - 24/6/06 at 08:27 AM

Turn them over what?

Nope. Definitely rotate 180 degrees.

Are you sure the body is back as far as possible? I know the body is bad but not that bad!!

mat.price - 27/6/06 at 08:57 PM

Have a look at mine and if it goes anymore back it will fall off the car Rescued attachment DSCF0256.JPG

jimbona - 28/6/06 at 08:06 AM

Im hopefully fitting my rear wish bone joints this weekend together with putting the wheels on.

Tiger said to me that the rear wish bones need to be fittered as forward as possible.

Lightning - 28/6/06 at 07:52 PM

That's helpfull of them.

Matt .....Nice dash!

shades - 5/7/06 at 09:09 PM

Thought I would post the after picture too...

This is with the bottom wishbones spun through 180 degree and the spacers on the rose joints pushed to the back

Seems OK now

scoobyis2cool - 5/7/06 at 10:25 PM

That's better! Good to see you sorted it out without too much hassle

Pete
