Hi,
When putting the bodywork on today, I've noticed that the left and right wheel arche haven't the same width.
The left one is 34 cm the right is 33 cm, is this a common probleml?
Anyone has (had) the same experience and knows what to do about it??

yes i think
mine is the some the left is bigger then the right but i have not done anything about it yet
as i was going to speak to a freind of mine that sad that he can sort it out for a point of two

Are yes the rear arch issue.
Yes mine had it aswell.
It was a problem on my car as I am running 195 55 15s on one side it would rub the tyre out!!

i ended up getting mine extended by a friend with a local bodyshop (also a tiger owner). now they are fine.

If you run 14s(as recommended) its not a problem and not that noticable.

Tiger actually used the same mould for left and right arch - just flipped the mould over.

You'll find that the trailing edge of one is approx 1" wider than the other and the leading edge of the other is approx 1" wider the other side.

The whole tub is also not symetrical and the bonnet will never fit right.

The sides are also different profiles at the front.

And wait till you try and remove the hideous flashline!

Has anything ever been done about these issues or do people just put up with them? Are they still like this if you buy a brand new one today? I sold my locost to buy a kit (Avon) foolishly thinking it would save time. Looks like theres going to be more fibre glassing on this than there ever was welding on the locost

There is a build site somewhere that covers how to rectify these issues. I can't remember which one though.

I did write a polite letter to Tiger highlighting all the mistakes and got an abusive letter back from Jim.

Have thought about publicly posting it many times, especially as my Avon site comes up 3rd on Google.

That could of buggered up sales somewhat!

what was the answer from Tiger to your letter,I' m curious.
Probably it'll the fault of the builders that the bodywork doesn't match...

It's not the builder's at fault its the lack of quality and attension to detail at Tiger. It's not just the Avons bodywork that has issues.

Who's body actually fits right? I have been on salads since new year, and the wife is reading Paul Mkennas book think yourself thin...

As for Tiger, I thought the avon was originally built by some other company, and they bought moulds etc and sold it as a low cost kit.

Mines a bit out on one side too, but its difficult to see both side of the car at the same time...

But that's not the point.

1" is just un-acceptable.

And as for the symetry...

I had a big debate with a bloke who had an original Phoenix Avon and we did come to the conclusion that theoriginal bodywork was different and symetrical after measuring.

And his bonnet fitted!

The responce I got was also not called for and not dealt with by a reputable company for sure.

This subject arises time after time on here. I built my Avon nearly 2 years ago and admittedly it does have the same "problem" with the rear arches, however I don't perceive this to be much of a problem as it is virually impossible to be in a position where you can see enough of both rear arches for it to be noticable by the naked eye. As for the rest of the fit, bonnet, nose cone etc. I have found them to be more than satisfactory. For the money (and thats a factor that is often overlooked) I found the Avon fantastic value, and a joy to build (even in the absence of a proper build manual). The finished car has blistering performance and handling to match. I for one, remain totally satisfied with the product, as even after 14,500 miles it still manages to put a bloody great big grin on my face whenever I take it out!

Now I"ve put some wheels on the Avon with another ET (35) and I'm satisfied with the result.
It's already mentioned you can only look at one side at a time.
Now both wheels are within the wheel arches and i can live with the result.

The avon shell is poor at best.
My brother and i cut the wings off and glassed
them back on straight.
Were also having a new bonnet made,

Mine were ET35 as well and they fitted ok
