I've got a zx12 in a stuart taylor, Its at that running stage and starrts and runs fine. but when I engage gear it kills the engine, It is definately not the clutch dragging I believe it is one of the safety lockouts, side stand, brake lever, clutch lever, however do they need to be open circuit to override or closed circuit, It starts fine, just kills the engine on engaging drive.

well I'd assume that if you don't have the switch connected then the engine cuts out from an open circuit

It's definitely the sidestand switch causing your problem. As for whether it should be open or closed circuit I don't know. Presumably the opposite to what it is now

ETA I've just looked in the workshop manual which is no real help. The switch is shown closed circuit in the wiring diagram. This, together with a fail safe logic would suggest that the circuit needs to be closed to run when in gear.

Most common thing going on then...the side stand switch...it needs connecting up or thinks the stand is down...I think it's that way round anyway

Find the connector and join the wires together, that's what I did with ZX9.

The guide I followed suggests side stand connected to ground. Whether that's your problem or not I don't know but that's how the side stand should be.

my blade engine is the same, it uses a zenner diode plugged in inplace if the switch. works fine

Cheers all. It was the sidestand switch I had assumed (assumptions aye... mother of all f*** ups) that open circuit was the correct way round, mainly because it started ok in this condition, which in hindsight is stupid as it would be fail ... un safe.



Regarding how do you get a zx12 in a stuart taylor chassis? ermm snugly but there are a few others who have also managed
