Hi I lengthened my 02-03 r1s rectifier wires to get it under the scuttle and now it when it runs they get quite hot - is this normal? i also noticed
a small whilst of smoke. Anyone know what wattage wires i should be using? think i used 17amp 200w wire but i could use 27amp 325w wire. Ive also used
bullet connectors would soldering and heat shrinking be better?
On the off chance i wired it wrong does it matter which ray round they go as they were all white wires?
Cheers
Adam
Rectifiers need quite chunky supply wires. After all, even a bike alternator will give 40A. I wouldn't trust a bullet connector to work with half of that!!! I'd use something chunky and solder / heat shrink as you've suggested.
Thanks ben, the standard wires not overly thick looks somewhere between the thickness of 17a and 27a wire i have but i know the wire i have has quite
thick insulation so il try the thick stuff and solder.
cheers
I extended mine and used thicker wire than the original. They still get warm. Done 2000 miles like that though.
I'd check your connections though if you got smoke!

My Suzuki GSXRs have 25A wire, but it's the OEM plug and socket at the rectumfrier that cause problems. It's a simple 6-way blade connector
that just isn't up to it, it gets hot and melts.
I use something more appropriate from Maplin.
Cheers guys getting on this tomorrow and its only a short extension so should be a quick and easy fix. Lucky i found it today as it was running with the scuttle off as it has been hidden for the previous runs
