MotaLeira, First drive...shakedown road test
nitram38 - 1/6/09 at 01:43 PM

First time that I have been able to drive it with some purpose.
I stayed local and put about 40 miles, visting people at work who know about the car or had a hand in supplying bits and bobs.
Goes like a manic go-kart on steroids!
Only two minor issues. The chain once warm, stretched a bit more. Easily solved with a couple more turns on the chain/diff adjusters. The other was a led rear brake light decided to pop out of it's holder. Another easy fix, just popped it back in.
Sorry, No video yet as I need to sort out a mounting bracket.
I just need to finalise the suspension adjustments but feels very good so far, no bump steer.

Sounds like a pretty uneventful first run-out really Martin....which is good

What was the public reaction like - lots of head turning and questions?

Mr Whippy - 1/6/09 at 01:48 PM

superb

best weather we've had in years to for it

nitram38 - 1/6/09 at 01:52 PM

Plenty of people asking questions, thumbs up and people shouting......the usual really

I went around to see my parents and there where fire engines in the road. We are talking about a side road with enough room for a car down the middle and parked cars either side.
Some Kn*b had hit another car head on and flipped onto it's roof.
It's a 30mph built up area!
Just lucky it wasn't me a bit earlier

My son has just got in from school and we planned a quick blast.
It is now raining in Mitcham

Shame

I'm hoping for a quick blat after work, but the skies are darkening a we speak

Raining !!!! You are living in the wrong bit of Britain, glorious sunshine here in Essex, boiling hot & not a cloud in the sky!

nitram38 - 1/6/09 at 07:48 PM

After an hour and my dinner, it's stopped raining.
This has got to be my best car yet (though I don't mind saying myself!).
Took it out and got to play with the flatshifter........seamless up and down shifts.
I just love the punch in the kidneys I get when I hit the loud pedal!

The bad news is that I might have to work the rest of my week off as someone got suspended at work and I'm the only one available to cover.
The good news is that I will get to drive it to work (if dry) and take it through the rotherhythe tunnel and limehouse link tunnels

Then there is Sunday, down to newlands and cowfold for brekkie!

You certainly looked like you were enjoying yourselves.

I will keep an eye out in the future especially when I am in the Westy.

nitram38 - 2/6/09 at 08:32 PM

Let me know when you are about and I'll bring the car over!
