Upping power level on 99 R1 engine or change it?

Hello all, just wondering how hard it would be to swap the engine in my Indy (99 R1 on carbs) to a later year model with injection etc?

Also, what gains would I see, as my engine already is dynojetted, ported head with cams etc....

Just thinking at the moment......

See, if you were a 5'8 skinny midget like me Lee you wouldn't have to worry

Have a look at holeshot racing's sit - they can do tuning packages for the R1.

I suppose it depends how much power you want and the cost of a new engine - I think the power of a later R1 can be achieved from the earlier engine for the same cost as a replacement engine (if that makes sense...?)

you may get a bit more horse power but whether or not you will notice a difference is debatable. Stock figures are 150bhp, 70.8lbft against 5pw with 164bhp and 73.8lbft from total kit car mag. if i was in a similar position id consider a much bigger upgrade so it feels worth it zx12, gsxr1000, cbr1000.

Your engine is now 10 years old, which is quite a lot for a bike engine. I'd worry what effect major tuning work would have on life expectancy. You could probably sell the 99 engine for most of the cost of a nearly new one, so for hundreds of pounds you get another 30 horses or 20% more and it will be in a new engine and will be stock power, so will probably last longer.
