ZX12R KLEEN AIR system question
rf900rush - 17/9/09 at 06:15 PM

Have seen many comments on the removal of this system.

So I have fitted my DIY blanking plates. Replace the air valve with a resistor (stops error code 64 on the B3 ->.

So my dilemma is...

I Have a problem with a bad flat spot at 2000rpm.

Having a chance to speak to someone at the Dax open day, I explain my problem.
The answer I got was to refit the Kleen air system

The reason explained was the ZX12R has a large Cam overlap which effects the low RPM running and the system helps this.

Sounded convincing enough for me to refit the Kleen air parts.
Too my supprise my flat spot was much better.
With the Blanking plates fitted no amount of rich to lean setting had any effect on the flat spot.

I have never seen any comments to this effect any where, only "best take it off" most places.

So now what do I do
Keep it on of take it off again?

Hello,

why don't you go for a Power Commander ?

By the way, my PC3 r is for sale

Let me know if you are interested.

As above. Do away with the kleen air system and use a PC to iron out any flat spots.

Done that.
First thing I did was get a power commder.

Adjusted the Map around the flat spot lean right throug to rich.
Just could not get it right.

Definitely seems much better with the Kleen air on.
Would rather rid of it, but only if it runs correctly.

I do suspect my exhaust is not helping.

Main problem for me, is I don't want to book a rolling road session until I am confident everything is right.

I don't want to here "you'll have to come back when you've fixed X"

I've blanked off mine zx12 A1, with PC mapped cleanly from idle

@2000 RPM? Didnt think you could drive at such low rpms on a BEC?

I removed mine and i dont have any flat spots, but my poor running is due to fueling which im playing with on the power commander.

Maybe you have a bad vacume pipe on the throttle bodies and it leaks with the system removed but is fine with it all connected? i ordered some of the blanking plugs from kwaks (at a ripoff price!) so i knew it was all sealed on the throttle bodies.

ps, i was under the impression that the kleen air system just allowed air into the exhaust to make it seem there was a high oxygen content in the gasses for the mot tests. If this is the case i cant see it effecting your running from the blanking plate side of things. I would look at the inlet side for leaks and blockages

all IMHO

My zx12r had them blanked off and remapped with PC. It had no flat spots.

I also had the ignition timing advanced as well.
