looking into it myself, shouldnt be much
I am nearly ready to drop my lump in the chassis, will do some mods while its still on the work bench
Check out this link and see what he has done with his R1 engine

Have you got anymore links like that ??
I have built an R1 injection powered Fury - www.fisherfury.com.
The usual mods are the sump baffle and oil relief tulip. So far my clutch has been fine but I know many people have done the upgrade with good
results.

Chris
Here another one

Baffling the sump is a good idea, but again its a mod if your trackdaying/racing it all the time, a lot of the R1 indy boys have just overfilled by
250-300 mls of oil & have had not probs so far.
Another mod if you dont already know is the airbox will need modding, the carbs are offset, so the holes into the airbox need turning 180 degrees as
the box sits the other way around on the carbs to give better clearance under the bonnet
Check out airbox pics in my photo archive
Your kit looks good mate.
cheers Drew
Cheers, put the engine in yesterday early evening, my mate who was goner help lift it in let me down, so i did it on my own
Went in ok, but im paying for it this morning, buggered my right knee in, cant bend it passed 90 degrees
Was a bit heavy!
More fecking money to spend
only happened on the early R1's and i would be surprised if yours hasnt been done allready on a recall jas
Thanks Mark,
looks like the clutch cover HAS been off at some point, as there is some sealer that has dripped up the side of the crankcase!
I might be lucky
Still goner do the doubling up of the diapham though.
My engine is a 99 should it be ok?
Im going to double up on the diaphram aswell.
if iv got one from when we replaced them ages ago i will take a photo of it so you can check it against yours, this only happened on the very early R1s and was a major recall so your engine was probably done,i wouldnt worry but deffo check it
Did Yamaha thank them for it . Would the extra diaphragm trick work on any bike engine?. I read Jon Ison found something similar in the Fireblade
engine he had.

on the R1 clutch basket youv got some gear cush drive springs and in the space where the springs were placed the corners were 90 degree ,this is where the cracks started and under heavy thrash the cracks would get bigger untill the basket fell apart so yamaha put a hole on each corner and this stopped the problem,i cant find an old one to take a picture of.but unless youv got one of the very first batch of R1's with very low milage on i would say that there every ones has been done
bit of an expert on R1 clutches, eh, Ox!!!!
lol hello m8 you finally made it then w00t!,yip iv changed loads when they first came out,its a bit of a fiddle getting the oil pump drive to slot into the back of the clutch basket, even more so when its in a car
Thanks for the advice ox if im strugling ill give you a shout.
Cheers Drew:
OX do you have a pic of the diaphram spring for an r1 clutch.
is it just a 5" ring?
