It started!!!!!

After about 9 months of being broken, the Indy finally sparked back into life tonight!!

I'm soooooooo happy!

Just got to get the seats in, seat belts and fix the offside rear brake light and it's off for an MOT tomorrow morning!

MASSSSIVVVVEEE thanks to Jambojeef who correctly identified lack of compression. I've swapped 12 of the valve shims around and it started.

Haven't done a compression test yet, as it's a bit late to run it up to temperature. That'll have to wait until the morning.

I'm assuming as you've swapped shims around you had tight tappets, this seems to be a problem with the ZX10/ZZR1100 but easily sorted.

Purely out of interest Russ, do you know why this is a problem on these engines? A bit of valve recession for some reason?

Yes the clearances were all over the place. Basically the exhaust valves were all spot on, but the inlet valves had shims that were too thick, meaning they wouldn't close. This was leading to no compression and fuel shooting back out the carbs. 15 of the valves are bang on tolerance now.

The final shim I got from the dealer was 2.50 rather than 2.15, so I'll be calling back over there this weekend to collect the right sized one.
