Car has been running for a year with a 6" wide, 30" long Techcraft repackable can. Always found it too quiet and stopped it souding like a
bike engine.
So i fitted a FUEL race can for a bike.
Noticed on its first run out, that it smelt rich.
How could this be?
Are bike engines really that sensitive to change of can?
What to do?

Put the other can back on ??
It must be a back pressure related problem ??
Bike engines are sensitive to 'breathing' changes, the fueling will not be the same when swapping around cans. There's a few decent
makes (Akrapovic/Arrow etc) that make cans that do not need the fueling tweaking, however with your custom manifold it'd be different to
standard anyway.
Basically a power commander and rolling road needed
I have a Power Commander but according to an R1 bike forum, i cant use it, as mine is carbed? Which beggers the question....... why would they make one?

if you've a carbed engine it'll be a dynojet kit you need
The only way to make sure is to check out the AFR or take it down to your local MOT station - at least that will give you an idea.
Looking at the top pic, isn't that a carb? Hence, as above, a Power Commander is useless, a Dynojet kit is what you need. How can you have the Power Commander connected if that is the case....?

Since my last reply the car has been off the road.
I am going to fit a K&N filter i have (replace standard air filter) and see if these leans the engine off.
I've seen so many BEC's with various filters and cans that are never RR and driven for years, yet mine has decided to run rich.
So..... im going to try and loan/borrow an air/fuel meter to see where she's running.
Yes, they are that sensitive.
You'll need that AFR meter, either on a RR or on the road. Corrective jets or maps will follow that...
Yamaha had some fun and games with a carb/injector hybrid in the early days, one of yours?
Hope you're up to 'normal' engine temperature though, that manifold looks far too clean. Usually, mine would be scaled and coloured up
after some use (despite the material) and the can itself would be doing the same.
Even with the correct fuelling, I deposited soot on the front lower wheelarch corner you can see in your picture.
Hope you're not driving it like a car engine?
Tempted to swap mine to a bike can.. apart from the richer running did you notice any difference in feel with the bike can on?
P.s yours is injected. They are throttle bodies, if you take the plastic caps off they house the throttle slides. I know they look like carbs, but
they aint.

Its only done about 50miles with this can and the only difference is the sound (a lot better), i cant think if it drove any different. It did smell
slightly rich.
Staring it the other week just to move it out the garage it smelt very rich but this might have been because on choke.
Im going to fit the K&N tomorrow and warm her up to see if it makes a difference!!!?????
Then when funds permit, a AFR meter.
Fitted the K&N panel filter this morning.
Started and warmed up car (idling & occasional blip, as its currently SORN'd).
Smelt rich(ish) when on choke but when warmed up seemed fine.
