Hayabusa Dry Sump kit

Hi there, my first post, I have acquired myself a hayabusa engine MNR Vortx.
And booked a trackday at Cadwell on 26/04.

The car will run on Michelin slicks.
The previous owner has told me he has done numerous track days in the car (around 5/6) problem free.

However as you do I got to thinking and as the car has only come with a swinging arm oil pickup and an Accusump (No dry sump fitted) I wondered;

a) is this sufficient? (I personally think not and do not like taking risks)
b) if not and a dry sump is the way to go, has anyone used this kit?

It seems cheap (compared to the extreme engines/ SBD one) and looks the part;

Does anyone have any other recommendations? Or points to note/ parts to buy when I send it to my mechanic to get put on?

That is the dry sump i have in mine and after 2 years of track days had no issues with the system itself but I would recommend using the Davies Craig controller for the water pump and not the fan switch I originally used.

I had planned to fit a swinging pick-up sump but decided dry was the only way to go.

This is the controller I have but it has stuck on a couple of times so pump keeps going until the battery is flat

Thanks for your response mate. Just wondered whether you had to fit a billet clutch slave cylinder too.

I phoned up the company that have them in stock and they also told me that they have never had any issues with a swinging arm pick up and an accusump either!

So I am now thinking I have no idea whats best, some people say DS only and others say there is no need.

Theres only 1 way of finding out really and I don't fancy blowing an engine up and then having to but a new one and a DS kit as well! Turns into a £4k job!

I think I am answering my own question to be fair, id juat like to hear other experiences.
I thought that one was a cheap one but they are all + VAT at the end, so it puts all these kits around the price of the SBD one and they are top of the stack.

There is no cheaper way to do things, or so I haven't found just yet.

Perpetrator,

I have EXTREME ENGINES set up on mine.

The system is perfect and the help you get off Karl is second to none.

You can ring him up and have a chat if you have any issues with the engine / clutch etc etc and he's more than happy to help and talk you through it, (at no cost).

The kit he offers seems to be the same price as the one you have found, (in fact £5 cheaper)... See link.

The only other way is to look out for or advertise as wanted, for a second hand set up some one might have stashed away...

Yes I fitted a billet clutch cylinder and also the idler gear to prevent starter motor and crankcase damage from a spin.

You dont have to use a billet clutch cylinder the standard one can be spaced out and used with no issue.

Do you have a moment to give me some advice.
I just blew my daxrush blackbird engine, crank bearing Apparently Ive discovered that since they run on a wet sump Ive been told there crap around corners starving the crank from oil. I cant opt for a bigger engine at the moment so Im going back for a bird engine.

Ive been told I need an accusump to resolve my issues. I wont be opting for track days and more street use as Im from sunny Malta.
Could you please tell me how the piston cyclinder is connected to the oil sump? I tried to check your photos but I couldnt figure it out exactly as it wasnt clear. Im also waiting for cantonracing to get back to me. And do I keep the same oil sump frame? A couple of photos will really help if you can also. email is z_bren@hotmail.com. all I can offer is a couple of burning rubber days in Malta if you pop down!

The accusump must be connected to the main oil gallery on the pressure side of the pump, it is designed to maintain pressure in the gallery when the pump loses supply from the main sump.

I think there is a bolt at the front of the BB engine that gets you into the gallery if I remember right!

In years gone by the rule of thumb for a BB was a baffled sump, 10% overfill with a 2 pint accusump with the electric valve.

Im removing the engine this saturday so I'll take a good look to see if i find anything around the sump area to be able to connect the accumilator to it.

From your experience if I may ask, do you think its worth the €600 for the accusump since I'll be driving it for just street use even though there are quiet a few nice long strips with bends here? Making sure I have a baffle & oil always being topped up ofcourse.

What do you personally think?

Hi mate I am no expert on this and I do not have any more pics of the car as it has now also gone in for the extreme engines DS kit to be fitted.

I can however offer you my old accusump after I get the parts back?
This should save you money and come with all the necessary bits.

I would suggest you will also need a swinging arm sump pickup.
I have one but it fits the busa block.

Bit naïve of you to run a bike engine in a car without any form of oil protection!
Live and learn though eh.

I m actually coming to Malta on 4th May too!!

Haha..Very naive mate but we only learn from our mistakes sometimes.
To be honest I wasnt aware of this issue with these cars at first, but thanks for your reply.

I just found out this morning that one of the kitcar owners here on the island whos a friend has an accu-sump for sale & will help me install it. However I do not know what other additional accessories he has or that I might need for it.
I should found out within the next 2 weeks or so I will be intouch if I need any additional parts for the setup.

Best bet to learn what you need is to google it and watch you tube vids.

On a side note with my kit I have not bought the hi speed oil pump gear.
Would anyone experienced in this sector say this would be a serious issue??

They are £150 from SBD

TBF I will probably do this eventually anyway as I hear the bike engines are very sensitive when it comes to oil and my right foot is far from sensitive.

Good decision with the extreme engines decision.

Don't have a photo of my full dry sump set up, just this one that shows the external tank.

My engine has also had the works treatment from Extreme Engines under previous ownership and increased to 1400cc.

None stop smiles while out and about in it!

Not 100% sure on this, I'd have to go through the paper work. I'd say yes from memory.

Is this not included in the kit from Extreme Engines?

I'm pretty sure its part of the kit...

I'd ring Karl at Extreme and ask him about it, and ask him if its part of the kit and if not is it required, how much it is etc?

He will be more than happy to assist and pass on opinion.

No its deffo not part of the kit.

Its an optional extra, I don't even know if Extreme sell it? I don't think they do. I mean the cars been running for a while without it anyway and not blown up!

So I should be ok?

From what you're saying you've probably answered your own question.
I thought it was part of the sump pan, I might be getting mixed up with something else.

If it's not part of the kit, it's probably not needed.
If Karl doesn't sell it at extreme, it is definitely not needed.
He bores these engine out to 1600cc now, so if its required, he'd be fitting them.

Give Karl a ring and discuss. He'll be happy to help and advise.

You'll get a definitive answer from a suzuki hayabusa engine specialist with 30 year experience in seconds rather than going backwards and forwards of you know what I mean. The sooner you get your kit and get it fitted, the sooner you have peace of mind and can give it some without that niggle in the back of your mind....

Let us all know what the outcome is.

Spoke to Karl, he said they have never used one on any of their builds and they haven't had any issues thus far, so good news.

I had already bought the kit, and after feeling CONSIDERABLY lighter for something that gives me 'almost' no more power, its at the shop for fitting. Will be started next week for track on 26th - fingers crossed.

I couldn't agree more. Karl has been a massive help to me and his advice is always spot on (he once talked me out of buying something from him as he didn't think it was the best solution!)
