HELP reliability with Turbo Blade engine
John Davis - 27/3/05 at 08:14 PM

Can anyone tell me what the reliability of a turbo blade engine RRX918cc is, or better still has anyone had the conversion done that holeshot is offering for 2800 pounds.
I am considering having this done but really would appreciate feed back from anyone who has had it done or knows about the reliability.
What about the performance of these engines with a turbo in comparison to a standard bussa, does anyone know how they compare?
Cheers John

There is a guy on the westfield forum who has the hole shot turbo blade. Think it may have been "developed" slightly since completion. He has a very detailed web site but I can't remember address. I think his name is John Cobb.

The westfield turbo blade page is http://www.best-guess.co.uk/westfield_turboblade/
I'm not sure he is overly enamoured with Holeshot - I think he had something written up about them (I might be wrong about this) and it's now been taken down. If you look at his 'suppliers' list they aren't mentioned any more.

You're safer getting your own turbo and do it yourself! Cheaper too!

Yes you are right, he had some 'troubles' but they have been somewhat settled. His website is excellent and tehre are a numebr of improvements that he has developed throughout.
There is another site of a home brewed turbo - www.situne - a MK2 Escort with a turbo blade. Looks fanatastic. I am also wondering about the converison but first I will have to finish the car

My experience of holesot have all been good so icant comment but all i can say is the prices on the website are not very accurate . For example a turbo conversion on a busa powered car is more like 5-7k.

would that be for the full whack conversion (ie high boost) or just the entry level turbo setup?

A couple of close friends also had a few difficulties with Holeshot, although its a nicely finished product in the end, Id say that if you're hoping to get your car built to any kind of deadline, they probably aren't the people to go to!

Yes 5-7k drive in drive out. The problem is they use a lot of american parts so if the suppliers/shipping let them down it takes longer but if your spending a lot of money i would rather wait and get it done right.I have been in a turbo powered busa 7 and it was totally undrivable with 350bhp at the wheels. I think if you want to go that route then mid engined is the way to go. Even with a mere 245bhp at the wheels my car used to wheelspin off the power in 3rd gear. The guy i sold it to had owned a few sevens but rang me up a couple of days later just to tell me it scared the S**T out of him and he was now just going to track it
