after reading much about uprating the clutch on bec im getting more and more confused can someone help
i have a 1997 rrv blade
what do i nead to uprate this(just beginning to slip on 2 up hard acceleration
do i nead kevlar plates,what springs etc
and where do you get them from,and is it a expencive item
Im sure someone's said that you can use Blackbird springs, as they are stronger, and EBC plates seem to be popular.

If it has already started to slip, then I would suggest if you can aford it, to get new friction plates as well as new springs. For friction plates
the best ones Ive used are the stock Honda items, but they are expensive (~£100 for a clutch set). Because I was short of cash at the time I went for
an EBC Kevlar clutch for about £60. It was more grabby and harder to pull away than the Honda plates, but seemed to grip as well once up and running.
As with Colin, I got some uprated springs from PDQ, they are better than Honda ones and MUCH better than the EBC ones
as supplied with their clutch kit.

cheers guys,i should add it only felt like a slip when i had a 6ft 7 black american footballer type gent in the car(giving him a test drive)

If you jack the car right up at the front as high as you can get it (probably 18"+ off the ground) then you can do it without an oil change as
the oil is low enough that it doesnt come out when you take the cover off. If you cant get it high enough and do lose a bit then you can still just
top up after rather than change it totally.
Gasket - you might be lucky and keep the old one in one piece if you take the cover off carefully, but its a lottery so best off having one to hand -
about £10 from the Honda dealer. I would advise not using instant gasket type stuff cos unless applied very carefully, you end up with lots of orange
blobs of rubber in the oil pickup which isnt good!

Just to add, if the clutch had been slipping a lot beforehand I would recommend changing the oil anyway as the oil will likely get much more contaminated with clutch particles when slipping a lot, and will also probably have been cooking the oil that was sat between the plates so not ideal.
ive contacted pdq regarding clutch springs(the uprated ones)and i think i got the resident thicko,does anyone know the part number of the springs so i can be sure to get the right ones

I've just purchased a '94 blade engine from Ab Performance for which he also supplied a spec. sheet for the parts he has fitted.
For the Barnet heavy duty clutch springs he has listed a part no. of MT-99.
Others may be able to confirm this is the correct part no.?

ive been led to believe the barnett ones are not that good hence the requst for pdq whitch are supposed to be the best

It is the Barnetts you want, which are supplied by PDQ. I think you're getting confused with the EBC springs which are made from a grade of
chocolate I think 
When I got mine, they recommended something other than what they list on their website for the blade, MT-99 sounds right, I think they are actually
listed for Blackbirds. This was for a 97 engine though so it may be different for different years. It does sound like you got the coffee maker though
cos when I called them the chap was quite helpful.

Just looked on another site for Barnett clutches and the MT-99 is listed for a CBR1100XX (Blackbird?)
Andy at AB performance did say that these are effectively extra heavy duty springs and if I felt they were too stiff, he would exchange them
for the normal heavy duty item.

Yep thats what I was told too Andy, these were the extra heavy ones, they seem fine though, slightly heavier pedal but thats no bad thing, and they
definitely were an improvement over standard new Honda ones.
BTW I got your cheque today thanks, will get the pump packed up for you on Saturday (wont have time tomorrow). I also spoke to Andy at AB today as
he's buying some of my old engine bits off me, seems a really nice guy who obviously knows blades inside out.
