shake down zx12
bikkel - 14/8/05 at 11:33 AM

hi

finally ( 2yrs building) my car had the shake down yesterday at a track for sprinting ( 1st / 2nd / 3rd gear).
beside 2 loose hoseclamps and the spongy brakes no problems.
the gearshifting needs some attention though , still getting used to clutchless shifting.
never driving a bike , it is hard to shift at the right rpm without looking at the revcounter (too many curves and no straights overthere).
I trusted my hearing , but shifted at 7-8 Krpm instead of 10 K.
( still this thing is bloody fast)

I would strongly recommend that until you get fully used to the car and are driving it hard, ALWAYS use the clutch for up and down changes otherwise you'll be rounding off your gearbox dogs in no time. Doing clutchless shifts at lower rpm is awkward and clunky at the best of times, it only really becomes viable and smooth when accelerating full throttle and at high revs.

I'd add to what Chris says, when you're used to it simply "back-off" slightly on the accelerator and upshift... downshifting I'd use the clutch always.

How is the engine running? Hot ???

Well done... top bloke!

Great car Koen! Sorry I could not get a closer look at your car.....
I always use the clutch since I broke a gear box of my blade.
You can always do like me: have a test race in Hockenheim. There happens to be a race on 4 september....

A lot of dutch racers are going there so it is a nice event.
Trust me you will not be slowest

hi

@chris: yes , i'll take it easy, ( for a while )

@hellfire: temps ok, 90-100 degrees

@ erwe: i want to fit a drysump first ( now baffle plate / billet sump) before i race on the track, gives me something to do in the winter .
