There are a number on E-Bay at the moment. One went yesterday for £400ish. There are three more finishing in the next few days. You would be best getting contact details and the speak to the person selling. It isn't obvious from most ads as to how complete the kit is.

Also need to see/hear the thing running.

Ideally the engine should have numbers to give it a degree of authenticity.

Don't know if anybody here has experience of getting engines off EBay - they may be able to share good/bad experiences!

I think its a case of being very wary if buying off Ebay, and although you might get a bargain, also factor in the risk of buying a duffer.

For that reason I'd personally use one of the regular engine suppliers (Colibriman, Yorkshire Engines etc) as they have good reputations they want to keep so you've always got a bit of comeback if there's any problems when you first fire it up. As Chris said, budget £900-£1000 for a carbed engine, or £1000-£1200 for a 2002/3 injected engine.
