What trackday tyres??
GavBurns - 1/12/06 at 10:18 PM

I have new wheels and tyres on my locoblade but the tyres are cheap crap that came with the wheels. What are the best tyres to use for trackdays only and I'm on a budget so not too expensive?

I will be going for the rather cheap and very cheerful Colway Formula 2 - as seen in MNRs demonstrator.

toyo 888's

work well, and wear slowly

I got a very good deal on Toyo R888's off fleabay, £80 cheaper than direct from Toyo motorsport who we have an account with. If they are still to rich try Maxsport with the 17% tread pattern.

I have to second that. I was at Oulton today. The track was greasy as hell but the R888s were gripping really well (relatively speaking). I can't wait for a dry day to test 'em properly. Bought them cheap from ebay.

I had previously used Indysport TR tyres on my car in a soft compound:

Not bad. And available in 195/50/15.

keep an eye out on fleabay, quite a lot of part worn slicks come up at silly cheap money, although you might have to keep an eye on the oil light

If you're running 13" wheels, take a pop down to the next formula ford festival or race you can find, and see what they throw away....
In NI anyhow they discard 13" Avon ACB10's with enough tread on them to do us for quite a few track days. They tend to come in 6.5 and 7 inch widths.
Can't beat the price!

Just looked on Ebay - think my view might change!
