I'd just position it so the pipe runs are at a minimum really. One thing to make sure though is to position it so that if it ever blows a pipe off, it doesn't direct boiling hot water anywhere near the footwell!

I have one of those header tanks got mine from ebay exact same one

I am putting mine on the bulkhead/battery tray having the pinto engine means my space at the front is small

Id suggest rubber mounting it because Ive had one alu tank crack at the welds where the mounts are welded to the main body, and the way the mounting plates in the original post is welded then bent back isn't ideal to discourage that I wouldnt think.
