R1 Radiator plumbing :(
Adam - 19/11/07 at 09:57 PM

Hi all,

I've done loads of searching on here but can't seem to find a right answer
Basically, i have a 2000 R1 engine in my MK indy. I have a micra Rad with expansion bottle. Can anyone tell me how to plumb in this set up? Description or even better sketch or pictures......pulling my hair out trying to figure it out. It's my last job before the big start so want to get some pipes ordered and made up

Thanks in advance for any info.
Cheers
Adam

There are a few diagrams available but I think all relate to the polo rad.

Cooing with "Wyn-tech"

This one is modified from Chockymonster's diagram.. Spot the deliberate mistake.

Here's how mine is plumbed in, albeit with a Polo / Golf rad as well

Thanks for that but still have a couple of questions On the bottom hose where it connects to the engine and the pump, mine has a connection for a small hose....what do i do with that. Plus on the rad near the filler cap i have a small connection ....same here, what do i do sorry for all the questions.
Plus my header micra tank onlt has one connection coming off the bottom. Your diagram has one going into the top? is the r1 a closed circuit, no overflow?
Cheers
Adam

See my diagram above, answers the first two questions I think.

Are you sure your header tank hasnt also got any bleed inlets back into the top somewhere?

no... only an over flow opening at the top...
Your diagram shows the small pipe next to the pump going to the throttle bodies...mine is a carb?

Does the earlier carb engine not also have an automatic choke with a little actuator mounted on the carbs with water flowing into it so it opens up when cold?

Paul and others have put connected that small pipe to the header tank - see the left hand -side of the diagram above. It works for them so will be what I'm doing. It does mean that I had a header tank made with small inlets and outlets which should be ok when in use but will make the car a bitch to fill.

No, but it has a flow and return for to stop carb icing. I left these disconnected on the carbs and plugged the small connection on the water inlet at the engine.

Hey guys,
I'm trying to work out my coolent system on my 2005 R1, mainly the header tank side of it.
i've taken a pic of what i think i'd connect the lower outlet of my header tank.
it's a 3way one side goes to the lower engine the other goes around the stat.
also my rad has a little inlet next to the top hose, would i connect the top of the header tank to that? Rescued attachment coolent pipe.jpg
