Omni - 25/6/08 at 06:23 PM

YUM YUM! Fancy posting how the hell it is done? lol

tegwin - 25/6/08 at 06:24 PM

Wow thats really nice!

As above, any chance of some photos of your mold etc so we can all marvel at your genious and see how such masterpieces are created

neilj37 - 25/6/08 at 06:25 PM

Think i just wet myself

iiyama - 25/6/08 at 06:26 PM

Bang the carbon in the mould, bang the mould in a bag, vac it down and cook it for a few hours! The smaller stuff I can put in a pressure vessel as well which makes an easier job of finishing. Unfortunatly this is to big so will need three coats of laquer rather then the usual two.

The other stuff Ive made is here:-

...quite close to wetting myself

how do you make the mold? whats it made of etc? just coz you say about cooking it for a few hours.
i want to start making some stuff from carbon or kevalar, or carbon/kevlar mix

Omni - 25/6/08 at 06:32 PM

Come on, with master work like that you can do better than that description! Please could you make something and do step by step for it? It would make an awesome sticky and I looked for hours on how to do Carbon stuff on the web without luck

Go on, you know you wanna

philw - 25/6/08 at 06:33 PM

That is stunning, you should change your user name to, God!

BenB - 25/6/08 at 06:34 PM

That's one big oven? Is it industrial or DIY????
My bro's being doing experiments with pre-preg using a home brewed oven. Seems to work quite well....

iiyama - 25/6/08 at 06:36 PM

Mould is made from Vinylester and csm, nothing partuclarly special!!!

Carbon is pre-preg, (all of my stuff is), its more expensive then a wet lay system, but lighter, stronger and better to work with. All components are made with a 2x2 twill face ply of carbon and then backed up with 2 ply's of pre-preg glass. (keeps the cost down!!!!)

Oven is DIY but it is quite big!

iiyama - 9/7/08 at 08:19 PM

First cycle wing. Needs cutting back and second coat of laquer, but you get the idea! :-

Ooh nice! Might have to come and have a peek now I've got my r1 Indy when the sun comes back out - its black and orange so would suit some CF bits...

iiyama - 19/7/08 at 09:08 AM

Ive discovered that Im better at making the finished product then I am at making the moulds!

Kriss - 19/7/08 at 09:33 AM

rear arches look mega!

think i will be u2u'ing next week when my vromma comes

iiyama - 19/7/08 at 11:56 AM

These arches are for a Dax bud, not sure they will fit other cars?? Youll have to ask on here to see what others have done......

Hellfire - 19/7/08 at 01:53 PM

Dax arches will fit.............. a Dax. I doubt they'd fit any other seven without some fairly major modifications.

Nice work BTW. That's gonna be one seriously cool Dax when it's finished. Can't wait to see it.

Phil

iiyama - 20/7/08 at 09:45 AM

Pretty much what I thought. I know some others have modified them to fit but you cant really do that with carbon arches.

I can produce them in Pre-preg glass which could then be modified and painted to suit, but it depends if you want the grief of modding them!

Thanks for the compliments H! Hopefully it should be finished within the next few months so should see me out and about. Will definatly be a Stoneliegh next year.

iiyama - 30/7/08 at 03:33 PM

fitted:-

Just gotta make the other side now!

hobzy - 30/7/08 at 03:38 PM

Nice work

Omni - 31/7/08 at 12:16 AM

That looks SWEET AS A NUT!!!!

O

adithorp - 31/7/08 at 07:25 AM

Very nice. Only worry from those picture is whether the wheel is within the "plan form of the viehicle" at the back corner. In other words, can you see any tyre when looking vertically down on the car?

adrian

iiyama - 31/7/08 at 07:57 AM

I was under the impression that its the rim that had to be covered in plan, not the tyre???

iiyama - 14/8/08 at 12:18 PM

LED's fitted. Crap picture but you get the idea!!!

Any tread showing can be looked on dimly by SVA inspectors.

iiyama - 14/8/08 at 12:32 PM

may have to put slightly smaller spacers on the rear then. Having said that the arches are direct mouldings of the Dax item!! Be somewhat annoying if they are an SVA fail dont you think??!!

Jason Fletcher - 14/8/08 at 01:01 PM

god it makes me pig sick when someone puts out work like that

Actually, I feel better now cos if you were any good at it I would have a bonnet scoop on my car

Brilliant job and well done!

Jason

iiyama - 14/8/08 at 01:16 PM

LOL!!! Thanks bud!

Bonnet scoop mould should be ready tomorrow, so as Im on hols should have the first one out of the mould early next week.....
