Hi All
First post here so please dont flame me.
I have recently purchased the book and have a couple of quetsions.
Can i use a Mk2 Escort Rear Axle combined with a Sierra engine and gearbox.
If so is there a specific sierra i should be looking for.
Mk2 Escorts are extremley rare in my area i cannot find one for less the £1k
Thanks
You can use a Mk I/II escort,Mk3/4/5 cortina axle although it is 4 inches wider but this fills the rear arches better,or even capri axle.Lately people
are mostly fitting sierra axles but you need to modify the rear chassis becaus it is IRS.
There are plans around to make this modification or most of the manufacturers do a conversion kit.
Either that or buy a ready made chassis and let them solve all the problems for you. This also means you can use virtualy all sierra running gear
therefore only one donor car.
If i was starting again i would buy a 4 inches wider chassis from luego,mk,gts, etc
Irs sierra running gear front and back, sierra gearbox and2.0ltr Rover twincam.Should make a rapid but usable road car.

Hi,
Yes, a Sierra type 9 gearbox and a Sierra SOHC (Pinto) 2.0 litre engine seems to be a popular choice. You'll have to get a propshaft made that is
the right length to reach the diff in the Escort axle, but there are plenty of engineering firms that offer this service (look in the back of Which
Kit or Kitcar magazine).
I think this engine choice results in a bonnet bulge, but others will be able to confirm.
Have fun with the build
You could always put a byke engine in!
