my s2000 donor is being delivered to me this week and as this is my first build i could do with a detailed list of everything will need to keep. i
know i need, engine, loom, box, prop, diff, steering and dash but what other things could i use to keep costs down?
also a detailed list of things which i could sell to try ro recoup a bit of cash?
Strip everything to pieces, I went in with this attitude and ended up selling all the interior bits from door sill cards to carpet. Gets back a little bit of money. I will just look now, but i believe theres a good list already been published in one of the books.
As Eddie said..... there will be lots that you don't need, but could sell on to add to the building fund.
Just strip everything out, carefully and neatly and bag or box it......but most important of all LABEL it.....and log it down somewhere
Fozzie
but how do you know how much things are worth? and what is the best way to sell? is it best to just put it up for ebay auction and see what it sells for? its a mint 2003 car with 25k. the seats are red leather and perfect so you would not want them to go for really cheap money!
e-bay search, advanced, and click the completed listings box.
Red numbers mean it didn't sell, green means it did. Lots of useful facts.
Black s2000 seats are worth about £350. You can set a reserve, or start the price at a level that you can live with.
Matt
Daniel, I cannot tell you what the bits would fetch.....but...do not get rid of anything until you know that you most definitely wont need it....hence
bagging, boxing, logging it down and labelling......and storing
There really was nothing left to flog from my mk2 eski, but I know it will probably be different for you.
Is there a S2000 forum out there? It may be worth doing a search and just looking, you should get a fair idea as to how much bits go for....
I know on the VX220 site peeps are always after the odd bits for their marques.......so I would imagine it would be the same for the S2000 lot.
Just don't be in too much of a rush to get rid too quickly.
is red leather a similar price to black?
Remember to take lots of photos of the stripdown!! I went as far as getting a cheap digital camera from eBay (£4!) which now lives in the workshop
and I don't really mind if it gets covered in oil.
Trust me - you'll need those photos later!
Ed.
Just no reserve stuff, it'll sell for what its worth.....
Just to let you know, because I bought a donor my m3 engine/box/LSD/loom/dash/P plate now stand me at £600.
You can't buy over 300bhp for that much anywhere. Its a big ball ache stripping it down but well worth it.
How much was your donor?

Yep - those photos saved me many times during my build.
With eBay, I find it's best to make sure you don't get greedy with reserve prices etc. Just list the bits with a sensible start price and a
buy-it-now if you know how much you want for them, and they should sell.
However, by the time I'd finished my build, there was nothing left of the donor apart from the bodyshell, wheels, tyres, and suspension. I even
cut the roof panel off so I had some spare thin steel for other projects!
Photos...ooops yes.....forgot that bit....
I took loads and loads as I stripped down the donor ....and kept them in my 'donor to build' book (for my own reference .. )
With that specific car I'd join some of the Honda forums and offer bits up on there or at least linky to the bay. I remember a few years ago
someone telling me that he'd paid best part of a grand just for some headlights for an S2000 from Japan, not sure if it's the same price now
but they have been on the Bay for a few hundred quid for a single unit.
As long as you didn't pay silly money for it I reckon you might walk away with a motor costing you more or less zip.
Strip the shell, and sell the shell as a whole item. If its mint then it will be worth a few quid but it will probably be more attractive COMPLETELY
bare.
Then you can sell the rear wiring loom, interior, carpets, seats, doors, bonnet, boot etc all separately. Even as far as the door handles and wing
mirrors separately.
I havent got space for this type of donorage, but if i did, thats what i would do.
sorry guys.when i said mint i meant that all the bits i need are mint and the interior and elctric roof. its a damaged car with rear quarter damage. the front end is absolutely fine, engine, rad, fan, pumps, lights, loom all perfect!
As said above, advertise parts on s2000 forums/ebay etc. I've done this and its proven to work well. Just about finished stripping my donor now. A pain in the ass but looking at cash it really makes sense.
Here's the main UK S2000 forum for the owners club.

Keep all the nuts and bolts! You will be needing that sort of thing. It is a royal pain to go out to find those on Saturday at 5, after everything is closed.
