swift gti or corolla gti donor?

basically i am in a dilemma.
i have my old swift gti which was gonna be the donor for my kit, but recently my dads 'old faithful' corolla gti failed its mot on floor corrosion. so i have 2 perfectly good(mechanically) cars each with good engines and i cant decide which to use.

i noticed straight away that lots of people use the 4age engine and there are companies supplying parts, unlike the swift!

whats your thoughts?
alternativley the corolla is for sale if anyone wants it.

keep them both..!

use the corolla for a locost and build an offroad buggy and stick the suzuki in it......

The Corolla is the logical choice because of all the bits available for it.

But the Suzuki engine could be interesting - link it up to the transmission and rear axle from a Suzuki Carry/Bedford Rascal van and I suspect you would have some bits that would fit well in a book chassis.

forgot to mention that my swift engine has a damaged water pump and the corolla has ran perfect for the last 6 years we know of.......i am now swaying toward the corolla!

The Swift is lighter (all-alloy) and probably more compact (could you run your tape measure over and check?), bolts straight to the Samurai/SJ413/Carry trans using all stock suzuki parts.

I'm toying with the idea of using the Carry as a donor for the motor/box/axle/ front hubs/steering in a book dimension chassis - this should be quite a weight saving over a 4AGE/T50/Escort combo.

But I'm only at the "knocking ideas around" stage... :-(

bryan yeah i agree the G13B of the swift is a really light engine and having driven both road cars i would feel happier taking the G13B to 8000 rpm than the 4AGE.

i was already thinking about measuring them both up.

i got a lot of useful info from a guy in USA about th use of a G13B as this guy has put one in an MG BGT years ago and is currently building a kitcar withthe same engine.

he sent me some encouraging pics with the engine installed.

Somebody has to "try and test it" - they make decent power and are very light - go on, give it a try and let us know!!

Not sure about the Corolla GTI but an AE86 Corolla GTS would be a perfect candidate for a locost, I almost bought one for a song, but a buddy of mine who is a true toyota nut scooped me on it.

I know of several, like this one
Current owner claims 160-200 hp depending on turbo settings.

ok, guys, how much do the breakers ask for Swift GTi motors in old blighty?

Here in NZ they're around the $1000 dollar mark (about 400 quid)
