Hit it with paint stripper followed by a wire brush.

I just wire brushed mine to get all that off and put it under the car, diffuser on and thats that!

Ford never painted them so whats the point? Waste of time IMHO!

Although I didn't paint mine, I do agree you can't leave it like that. Clean it off and see what it looks like. Paint if it still looks naff. I wouldn't powder coat unless you are stripping it right down.

point taken ill clean it up n leave it.

Thanks peeps

only paid £75 for it so was a good deal me thinks?????!!!!???

Clean it off with degreaser wire brush etc, etch primer them simoniz steel wheel aerosol (not the silver its too bright for alloy) then simoniz clearlacquer if you want to really finish it off nice. paint of choice for engines etc as surprisingly heat resistant. As to do you or don't you,, imo its nice to take a pride in your work and looks good particulary if its going for an IVA test. also helps when it comes to dismantling at some stage which we eneviatbly seem to do all the time with these things.

Image of a gearbox finished in the same way as described.
