A pal may be breaking his low mileage V6 2.5litre mark 1 Mondeo and Im wondering how feasible it would be to use it's engine in a 7 .
I dont know a lot about the V6s in these, am i right in thinking this is the mazda derived Duratec v6 that will mate up with the MX5 gearbox ?
Is there anything I ought to be aware of before taking this route.
I don't think the Mazda box will easily mate up with the Duratec V6. The 2.5 V6 used in e.g. the Ford Probe (KL-ZE) is the one to go for, it's a well proven conversion.
werent the Mondeo Mk1 V6 and Probe engines basically the same though ?

Theres a house couple miles away with about 6 Ford Probes in the front garden
I think a manual Jaguar S-Type box should fit...
That sounds more hopeful.
Yeh but you need the sump aswell

The early V6 is a ford engine that was re-engineered a bit and became the V12 that appeared in the Aston BD*.. (cant remember which one, it was
during the ford ownership years)
I remember seeing one at the Aston Martin plant and thinking 'thats two Mondeo V6's joined together'
Jag V6 engine and box, cheap as chips Link
Thats superb, i'd always assumed they were prohibitively expensive. It has to be the way forward

Ah, sorry assumed that link would have been for an S type 3 litre lump and box as that was what had been suggested.

By the time you have the bits from the jag you need you may as well just get the jag. Full and tatty s type can be had for £500.
Did some work on the duratec v6 from the mondeo and connected to the Jag S type getrag 221 5 spd.
Eventually I abandoned the project and went for the duratec 2.3 cosworth.
what made you change your mind against the Mondeo 2.5 ?
Is the Duratec 2.3 Cosworth based on the same 4 cylinder block as the Duratec 1.8 and 2.0 ?
I just stumbled upon a new 2.3L which was complete, the 2.5L was to much work i suppose.
I wanted double side pipes, once i abandoned that idea, the choice was easy.
And yes i believe it is the same 4 cylinder block as the 1.8 or 2.0.
the inlet manifold (upper and lower) of a st200 can be used to upgrade the power a bit and
I used megasquirt as a management system (using the standard ford coil). Never got got it
working though.
In order to mate the mondeo v6 with the 221 you also need the sump + oil pickup from the s type.
the s type sump needs to be adjusted, otherwise it will not fit an indys frame.
The bulb on the front needs to be a bit shorter.
