I have been offered a cheap H reg Sierra Estate, which has just failed its test. Is the rear end the same as the saloon. Any other comment would be
welcome before i go and look.
Thanks
Ian
rear end is same but for shock mounts in different place, more shape to trailing arm,and bigger brakes.
Whats the engine?
Dunc,
The engine is a CVH 1800, but I would rather fit a cross flow. I do want to use the rest of the running gear.
Ian
good man x flow.

Sounds like a decent donor car to me
H reg with a 1.8 CVH - should have a 5 speed type 9 box with a short input shaft (pretty good for an X-flow, Pinto or Zetec E)
as above the CVH sump (and some other odds and sods) should be useful to someone fitting a Zetec E, so don't just bin it
the diff could be either a 7" or 7.5" at that age (both likely to be a 3.9 ratio)
the axle code on the VIN plate will tell you what it had originally, but best to check the diff itself
the driveshafts could be push-in type if its got rear drums (which I believe is most common on this version), but it might have the bolt-on version if
its got rear disc brakes instead (ie. if it had the optional ABS)
the front brakes will be either 240mm or 260mm vented ones, but the hubs are the same for both anyway
That's quite a thread bump right there
