Japanese Donor Car??
iceT - 17/7/03 at 02:34 AM

Hi Everyone,

I'm quite new here, not sure if anyone had asked this question.

Does any of you here knows what Japanese cars are suitable as a donor car? Say a Mazda?? Honda? Toyota?

I am planning to build a R1 BEC, but having tough time looking for suitable parts like hub, upright, diff etc... Ford parts are rather scarce here, so my best option is to go Jap.

Anyone with experience (or heard/read), would appreciate it if you share with me.

Thanks all!

There are a couple of builders on here using the wankel engine from a Mazda RX7, dunno about the other parts though

Nissan 200sx (s13)

CA18DET (1.8, 16v, 180hp) it's not as heavy as everybody said (mine weights about 120Kg without air con)

5 speed box

IRS with LSD diff (although I went the live axle route)

Dick Lukoszek has done a good website of his 200sx to Locost build in Aus. Check out http://www.qsl.net/vk4ir/clubman/clubman.htm

MX-5 is another Mazda options. Petite drivetrain, cracking gearbox. Another Aus example is at http://www.benchapman.com/default.asp?pageID=2&PageTypeID=4

Cheers,

Neil

Thanks guys! very helpful info!

At least now, I know where to start hunting! But I think I may not have made myself clear, I am looking at R1 engine, just needed the running gears... and also posted on the wrong category, should have been in Running Gears instead of Donor Cars! My bad!!

But nonetheless, great help you guys! Thanks!!

If you need a bit of info/help/ideas with the engine install lets us know as I've ran a 200sx for 4 years and picked up a bit of knowledge.
