Is the steel Sierra rack from the Mk1?
TimC - 3/2/08 at 08:50 PM

Hi
I have the wrong rack boots. I think they're suited to the more common cast ali rack. I have the steel one. Does anyone know if mine is a Mk1 rack or how otherwise it's identified?

Thanks

Hi Tim,

are you sure they just don't need trimming.
I thought the gaiters were a universal fit.

I think there were 2 racks used on the early cars, one for 1300/1600 and the other for 2000. Mine is alloy and from a 1300.

the P100 had steel cased rack (South African origin)
all the 2.3 sierra diesels (German origin) that ive owned have had alloy cased racks.
they are interchangeable.

They vary greatly.

Certainly not mk1, because our road rally car which was a 1992 sierra, one of the late ones, had a steel rack!

I have seen both on early and late sierras!

Parts on the late ones get a bit bizarre though.

The road rally car was a 1992 1.6 Azura, and as std it had a 1.6 pinto in it, on a type 9 box, rear drum brakes and small diff on push in shafts, but then it had a 28mm cossie front anti roll bar..........................??

very odd, needless to say it all got changed anyway so mattered little!
