I've been thinking about a suitable
vehicle to donate things like light clusters, head lights, repeaters
(and even windscreen!) for my mid engined project. Of course, it's a case of seeing what is
appropriate for my design, but I was thinking of getting a shortlist
together of potential vehicles.

Any suggestions? So far I've thought of Vauxhall Cavalier / Vectra,
Ford Mondeo / Escort. I suppose it needs to be a widely produced car,
old enough that there will be plenty in the scrappies, but not so old
that they are becoming a rarity. I do have the parts from both the
Saab (engine donor) and the Nissan 200sx (suspension donor), but neither are particularly common-place.

How about BMW lights? like 3 series.

I picked up my donor pretty cheap and have already made my money back selling all the parts off it.

Yeah, someone on the SXOC forum suggested e30 lights. The rear clusters are nice and simple, and the fronts should be easy enough to fit and replace.

I would go for the BMW but the old, old civic had nice narrow lights aswell

Have a look at the old shape Corsa van, I've often looked at the rear lights and thought how well they would french into a 7 style rear bodie. Nice small front units as well.

i'm hoping to get some ford puma headlights for my car. I've heard they're not very good though

I passed a ford Ka today, and thought about those. They have a nioce shape, but could be complex to get them to "mate" in with the rest of the body.

For the record, my finished build will not look like a 7, it will have closed front wheel arches, rather than the cycle type guards.
