small update

right now that im laughing in the face of the scum we call government and their recession and running a small buisness from my workshop it means i can get a an hour or 2 here and there on the car.
had a good weekend at it in this case so here is what ive got done-

managed to get the rear end shaped in the foam over rthe last couple of weeks then satdy morning gave it a couple of coats of PVA then fiberglassed over the whole thing-


rear glassed over
rear glassed over

then proceeded to fill out all the imperfections, have given the whole thing a rough fil then concentrated on the right quarter which is now just about done-

smoothing rear
smoothing rear


rear right quarter nearly done
rear right quarter nearly done

so there you go, now ive got the fiberglass on i can do bits and bobs until its smooth all round.

Nor do I.

I was wondering when you were going to get around to the back, because the front is pretty nice looking.

And it's definitely a one off - and all the better for it IMHO.

Looking good Russ, do you also find you have to be carefull to not dig a "ditch" when trying to blend a relatively tight negative radius, as in where the glass house blends into the tops of the wings?

ah, i see. thought id messed the pics up or summat. yeah that what i always say when people ask what its like. koenigsegg is pretty close, its the windscreen mainly.
yes fred, just need to be patient and not be tempted to sand out all the pinholes on first fill as youll go too deep, takes a good 3-4 layers to get it perfect.

Wish i had the space, time and know-how to fibreglass like that. It would take me twice as long to do that, though i have a project developing that may mean my skilles in glass are improved somewhat!

That's look great! It gives me some confidence that the shapes I'm working on for my car won't look daft in real life.

Stupid question: I know PVA as white wood glue. What's being referred too in this case?

basicly the same stuff, just the lowest grade as sold in the building section of b&q in 5l bottles. thin it down a bit with water and paint it on, 2 coats.
its only really necessary on the crushable type foam polyether something i think) as it reacts with resin. the spongy stuff is probably polyuerethane so should be ok, infact it takes an age for pva to go off on PU so best to leave it anyway. but as always test a small area first with resin to make sure.
