Engine transaxle choices Midtec
Trev Borg - 2/4/12 at 07:33 AM

Just bought another Midtec Spyder with a Renault V6 and Un1 box in it, but am thinking anout changing this set up for something else.

The kit is a rolling chassis, but never been finished so has sat for a very long time, and looking a little sad.

As this is going to be a track day car, it will be stripped of anything that isn't needed for the track.

The engine box combo we were thing of was the audi 1.8T and box.

Has anyone used it, and are there any major problems with it?

The box looks a fair bit shorter than the UN1.

Any info would be nice.

Work will not start on this until winter, but just trying to get ahead of the game.

A lot of the Elise chaps have gone to Audi and Honda setups - lots of info here - http://forums.seloc.org/forumdisplay.php?fid=108

Sounds like a good way of getting an in line mid engine using a modern unit which is pretty powerful and tunable.
Ideal of a Hewland isn't in your budget.

Almost relevant link

Strictly speaking, this doesn't belong in the 16V mini club, seeing as it's a 20V engine.
