Hi
A few questions for some J15 specific some not

If people havent used the Rally design/vw audi caliper what is a good alternative ? I am thinking of cutting my losses due to handbrake and cv boot

The 1.6 sigma i have has a longer oil filter fitted by Powertorque that will rub my rad pipes. In Halfords a 1.6 fiesta sigma is a much shorter filter (1.6 Puma is same as filter fitted ?) bearing in mind the limited miles and pampering our cars recieve does anyone think this would be an issue ?

Why the hell did i put my rear brakes pipe tee at the end of the tunnel instead of the diagonal chassis rails
as i now need to nip the connection up due to a leak and cant get at it

Finally what the hell did i do with the clutch line circlip that secures the push fit 2 years ago

The only bit I can help with:
Some oil filters have dip tubes, anti-drain valves or bypass valves. As long as the only difference is the filter capacity, it will be OK.

I used ford seirra resr calipers, but i dont know if they are interchangeable with the VW ones?

I would have thought the smaller oil filter to be ok.

I asked Jeremy about the Ford callipers, he said they do fit but require machining ( I assume with an angle grinder).

This may be of help......

As it happens, tonight I'm going to finish making my rear brake hose.....the vw passat (and may be others), use a somewhat thinner banjo....as far as I can tell, this can't be used but, the bolt is of some use....stay with me on this....using a standard banjo, there is plenty of meat on them to remove 2mm per side, in addition, the top of the bolt can be milled down 2mm....thats a total reduction in height of 6mm, which leaves plenty of clearence.

I will hopefully be able to provide a pic later this evening.....But all is not lost, with the vw calipers.?...watch this space.

Couldnt understand the oil filter as i thought the 1600 Puma was the same as the 1600 Fiesta but 2 different oil filters i will fit the smaller.
Might chance my arm with the calipers and some tight runs thru some bracketry to hold it, its IVA rather than day to day use thats the worry. The cv joint gaitors are a worry though it is very tight. I am getting to the impatient stage so was thinking of spending rather than improvising.

This may help and is what I did using Sierra calipers. I was not happy with angle grinding the caliper brackets and got a friend to mill them for me. I did a shake -down track day before IVA and passed OK with this set up. 40 laps of Goodwood testing and 2 sprints later they seem to be working OK despite my concern about tiny dia discs.

I do have an engineer friend with a lathe. Without looking at them theory wise whatever i take of the banjo housing as long as it is symmetrical should be ok 4MM will more than double the gap.

Nick,

The clearance is tight on mine as well but IVA was no problem and a thousand miles later even though there is only a few millimetres clearance still no problem.

With hindsight I would of used the hispec calliper on the rear to match the front as they now produce an add on mechanical calliper that fits any of their hydraulic calliper therefore converting it to handbrake use..

I think this is a real contribution, I have obtained a counter bore from Tracy Tools that is 18mm OD and 12mm ID. The idea is to counter bore the seat for the banjo on the calliper and possibly also reducing the banjo bolt length. Similar idea to Jenko but modifying the calliper instead. I am sticking with the 2mm reduction in the banjo bolt hex head height for now but if I fail IVA then the mods you lot are currently pursuing will come into play. I am going down the counter bore route as I think the seal against the copper washer will be better.

Thanks no i wont be at Stoneleigh but will probably do Newark. My boy is going thru an akward stage at the moment and i dont fancy a long drive to find out he wont get out of the car !
